Solved Does File History Append data?

In Windows 10 I am using the option to save my file history, but the file is getting HUGE. My question is, When I am using this option is Windows deleting contents along with adding content. For example If I save a video and the File History records it, is it also deleting the video when I delete it? My File History file is currently 190GB on a 1TB external HDD, and while this doesn't sound like much compared to 1TB it is taking up a lot of space that I would like to free up since I only have 312GB free on the HDD.

Any update for us Brandon Byrnes
Sorry, I totally forgot about this thread, I haven't been on in a few weeks. I was able to just go on the external drive that I have my File History on and just go through and delete a bunch of old stuff. But now I just noticed that when I have the drive connected and I go to the Recycle Bin on my desktop, it has around 20,000 files in the recycle bin. But when I disconnect the drive and go to recycle bin, it has only the three files that i just deleted in it. So i'm assuming that for some reason my Recycle Bin is accessing the recycle bin folder on my external drive that has my File History on it when i have the external drive plugged in. Has this ever happened to anyone? And is there a way to make it not do this?

One way to prevent this behavior is to change the recycle bin setting for your external drive.
  1. Right click your recycle bin desktop icon (with your external drive connected) and select properties from the menu.
  2. Highlight the external dive, shown here as "G drive"
  3. The click "Don't move files to the recycle bin. Remove files immediately when deleted"

BTW, the 20 odd thousand files now showing when you click the desktop recycle bin icon are not written to your internal drive, so there's no real issue. Recycle bins can save your bacon at times..

Okay, I did that Gus, thanks for the information. I also went and emptied the recycling bin on my external drive, along with restoring some files from it, it took a couple of hours for me to go through all of them, and there were some files in there that i'm not sure why I deleted them. But thanks guys for the help.
