Budget 200-400 Euro

Current Parts

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
GPU: PNY NVIDIA GTX 1660 Super (1 fan)
MOBO: MSI A320M A PRO VD/S
RAM: 32GB 3200MHZ (HyperX, 2x 16GB)
DISK: 1TB SSD & 250GB SSD
PSU: Cooler Master MWE 400W
Case: Picture of Case
BIOS: Latest Version bios page
CPU COOLER: AMD AM4 Wraith Stealth Cooler Link

Important

  • I plan to upgrade my GPU in a few years to a 3060 or something so I want to get a good PSU.
  • I have a Ryzen 7 2700X that my friend gave me for free that I want to use in this system. I am concerned that I might need a new motherboard or CPU cooler.
  • I don’t want to upgrade motherboard only if I don’t have to but I don’t mind. The R7 2700X is supported by my board but i’m just worried it may cause problems because someone told me it might give me bad FPS or other issues
  • I definitely want to upgrade PSU, CPU cooler and if I have to my motherboard.
I want to get a 750W psu but i’m not sure about brands.
If i need a new motherboard any recommendations?

Your new CPU will only support memory up to 2933MHz, your motherboard will only support up to 2400MHz, this can cause issue if you try to use your 3200MHz ram with them.


Your PSU is not something I would use in a proper system, any power supply in a gaming system/system with a GPU needs to be at least 80+ Gold rated.

A good PSU from EVGA, Corsair, or Seasonic with a 10-Year warranty should last you as long as you want, this list is comprehensive on what is good and what is junk. This article tells you what you need for your GPU and what is recommended.


No CPU cooler or case info is apparent, are you attempting to upgrade a prebuilt?


This question is crucial:
Why do you want to upgrade? There's no sense in throwing a couple euro into a system if it does what you want it to just fine. :)

I want to upgrade because I was offered a free CPU but because of that, if I actually want to use this CPU, i need to upgrade multiple things like we talked about. I also will definitely want to upgrade my GPU in the future to a 3060 or something.

Case info I’m not sure because it’s an old prebuilt from 5 years ago

So do you think if I only use 1X 16GB ram stick it would be okay? I don’t really need 32GB.
Do you think you could possibly recommend a motherboard?

If the CPU you received works with your current board, I'd just drop it in, load a fresh install of your OS and Drivers, and see where that gets you before spending a lot of money. Unless you have a clear goal of something you want (i.e. running a certain game/program, or getting more performance) then I would wait until the need arises, save your money, and buy exactly what you want/need.

The link leads me to a dead Amazon page.

I’m gonna get a 750W PSU so I never really need to worry about it again. I’ll look online now unless you have any links to a specific PSU i can just buy

Unfortunately there will come a time when you need to upgrade again, with the higher 30 series cards requiring up to 1000W PSUs, but a 750W should cover what you need for the foreseeable future.

So do you think if I only use 1X 16GB ram stick it would be okay? I don’t really need 32GB.

Memory runs best in a 2-stick configuration, 2x8GB sticks will be somewhere around twice as fast as 1x16GB

Depends on what you want, almost any board from a reputable partner should be okay. I like ASUS, but I have heard good things about Gigabyte, MSI, and ASRock as well. Most of these brands should come with a 3-year comprehensive warranty, which in my mind makes them about equal. :)
