Hard drives fail. It's something that is unavoidable. However you can get early warning on a failing hard drive by regularly checking it for errors. Here's how to do so.
- Open Launchpad
- In the Search Box, type Disk Utility. Click on Disk Utility
- If you want a quick look at your hard disk, look at the S.M.A.R.T. status and make sure it says Verified. If it says anything else, replace your hard drive.

- Click First Aid
- Click Run
- Click Continue. It'll then run the disk check
- After finishing you'll see a screen like below:
