    Thunderbird configuration

OK, so this really blew up in my face. I no longer have an installed Thunderbird, so no address book, no email history. I can live without either, but I can’t get past the configuration to start Thunderbird again! When I enter my email address and password, I’m told they don’t work, after Thunderbird has looked up the servers I’m supposed to use. On the other hand, if I log into my email address directly (via Yahoo Mail), that email address and password work fine! Sure would like to go back to the earlier versions of Thunderbird when you actually entered the server IDs. I could then be assured Thunderbird and I were talking about the same thing. Any suggestions on how to get Thunderbird configured with this problem?

Simply put, the password Thunderbird was looking for was not what I was passing it. Sometime in the past the password got changed, and I was still trying to use the older one (big surprise, right?) When I checked the password in MailWasher and found a newer one, I tried that, and, of course, it worked. BTW, Mailwasher is a slick program that allows you to pre-select which programs are deleted AT THE SERVER, and never downloaded. I run it before I run Thunderbird. That way, I only download the emails I want. Mailwasher also is smart enough to recognize malware and delete it without any help from you.

        glad you got it sorted.
yeah, I used to be a big MailWasher fan until I tweaked Outlook to only download the header info and from that I work out the ones to flag for deletion and the others to flag for actual download.
