I used piriforms defraggler's optimise option on my HDD. Im stuck, please help

(Full problem) My computer was being very slow, I initially though windows Update and stuff so I left it, but it continued for days,so I opened task manger and monitored in between my work, even for extended periods of time the disk usage(HDD) is always at >90%, no matter the number of tasks or the disk transfer rate. I read online that defragging would solve the issue, so I ran the windows defragger and it really went down. I also came across suggestions to use piriform Defraggler (I always use ccleaner but I never knew this existed).

(Please read this) Here I made a big mistake after analysing in piriform defraggler I also ran optimize, I later came across the Piriform defraggler doc which goes “optimize is for SSD”. My computer uses HDD. What should I do now, it’s been stuck at optimizing(83%). And my PC disk usage is at 100%. I am afraid my HDD will fail. Please tell me what should I do?. Should I cancel the optimize? and just run defrag?.

there has been a bug in Defraggler that has been there for well on 8 years or more now.
they know about it but cannot find a solution on how to determine whether your drive is a SSD or a HDD.
that Defraggler screen shot is showing you have a SSD, which you say you don’t.

you can kill the Optimise whenever you want, it’ll just stop doing the current file it is on and leave the rest ‘unoptimised’.
but it is showing only 3% fragmented - that’s nothing! don’t even bother doing a defrag unless you are over at least 10% otherwise the time taken and small benefit returned is not worth the wear and tear on the drive.

with Defraggler, I also found it best to simply go to the File List tab, click Analyze and sort the Fragments colums ionto descending order by clicking on the column header, than just select the worst offenders, or the top 50 files and click Defrag. then repeat for the Size column.
that way you are only defragging the worst culprits.
but I don’t run DF anymore as SSD’s don;t need it and should never be defrag’d, TRIM is all they need.

Thank you sir, I was afraid that stopping the process would do more bad than good. I stopped it, I can close my pc now. Your suggestions are very helpful , I will follow them from now. Thank you
