My computer manages to reliably take the better part of an hour to fully boot up and get up to speed, which doesn’t really make sense give the information I can find. I’m running a Ryzen 5 3600x on an MSI B450 motherboard with 32 gigs of 3 gigahertz memory, a 2 terabyte hybrid drive, and a 1 terabyte SSD. I managed to open task manager, but it says I’m only using 15% of the CPU and 20% of the memory, but 50% of the disk. Isn’t a hybrid drive supposed to be faster than a standard HDD?

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

I started with a prebuilt maybe two years ago, the only thing left from that is the data I copied from the original hard drive onto the hybrid drive. I had to repartition the drive later with minitool, but it has always taken a while to boot up. The better part of an hour isn’t strictly accurate, the booting up itself takes maybe five minutes, but the computer runs extremely slow for close to another 50 minutes, slow to the point of not being able to open and refresh browser tabs or game libraries. During that time, it will frequently pop up messages like the unresponsive notices you get when a browser tab freezes, but for windows.Comment

No, I believe that was when I moved all my files from the original hard drive over to the hybrid drive. The motherboard and CPU were used with the old drive, but I was able to go through the troubleshooting to get it to boot up from the new drive. I don’t know where the tablet qualification came from either.Comment

So how did you get the data from the original drive to the new hybrid drive, the behaviour that you describe is commonly caused by a dirty Windows installation.Comment

From what I gather, you have not even formatted when you rebuilt? Picture a rug that is never moved. Look under it and see how much dirt STILL gets under it. Same thing with installs. Backup everything you might need onto another drive, do a scan on the files first. It would not hurt you to do a complete clean install. Download the latest Windows and place on a USB. Formatt the drive, all partitions. (not sure why you need partitions, HDD’s are cheap) Should only take minimum time (1/2 hr) Load your MB disk, GPU driver’s, and Windows update. Then see if this helped. If this does not help, then we know it is probably hardware related. Enjoy the process, relaxComment

I can try that as soon as I track down a flash drive. I didn’t format because I have over 2 TB of games and programs on the drives, and most of the programs are overnight installs. The partitions were only showing up because the old drive was smaller than the new one, and there were existing partitions for different things, but I had to use MiniTool to get the unallocated space to register as part of the main memory partition as opposed to hanging off the end as it’s own thing.Originally posted by hackerballsComment

Using Macrium was the correct approach but not gone about the correct way,
Windows should be on the faster SSD device and not the slow as molasses 5400rpm drive.
Its own SSD would have been better but to get the best performance from your set up Windows should be installed on its own 256Gb partition on the SSD, the benefits of this apart from faster boot times are Windows is easier to back up and update + it helps keep Windows safe from data corruption etc.Comment
