Firefox Bookmarks and History Are Gone

I justwent to Firefox and all of my bookmarks are gone. So is the History. It’s all blank. I’m using firefox 67.0.3. Did I click something accidentally and they’re still somewhere? Or did they get deleted somehow and everything is lost?

I just found “import and backup” on the blank firefox library screen. I clicked on restore and yesterday’s date but it said “unable to process backup file”. I have an acronis backup from yesterday. Should I try to find a file there and try to restore it? If yes, what am I looking for?

I searched for help and found a website that said to enter "%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles “. I did that and it showed what is supposed to be my firefox profile”. I attached a screenshot of it. It’s a week old but that’s OK - I can manage with that. But what do I with this file now? Does this file really have my bookmarks?

That is indeed your bookmarks just in compressed form.

You should be able to import them and select that file from the Restore function.

Just curious, the latest version of Firefox is 70.0.1. You should update Firefox for security reasons

I jsut attached a screenshot of what comes up when I select “restore”. But it says it can’t restore those. It says’unable to process backup file".

How do I restore this condensed file" How do point the “import” to it?J

Nothing in the “restore” lsit can be restored. How do I specify this condensed file for restore - it only selects from the list?i

Try signing out of the computer, doing a reboot, and seeing if that helps. Your profile might be broken and not fully loaded and that could be why you can’t restore anything. Did you enable Firefox Sync by any chance?

Also, I strongly advise updating Firefox to 70.0.1 as per my previous post.

I don’t know what firefox sync is - could I have accidentally enabled it?

I didn’t update firefox because last time I did all of my bookmarks folders that had been open were closed in the epdate. I had to go through each folder manually and re-open them so that I could find the bookmarks in them.

Firefox Sync automatically syncs all your bookmarks so you don’t have to. Your bookmarks are saved in the cloud and they follow you through updates, re-installs, etc.
