Pc won't boot

After receiving a new motherboard I wanted to start from scratch so I start to erase all my files from my pc but when my pc was on about 35% the power went out and now the pc won’t turn back on. When I press the power button all fans spin and light come on and I hear a beep a couple of seconds later there is a long continuous beep which doesn’t stop and the screen is aslo black with a with flashing underscore in the top left corner. Can anyone help?

most likely a hardware issue.
remove the memory and video card (if you have an add-on one), wipe their contacts and brush the motherboard slots, reseat them and try again.
if you were really unlucky, the loss of power may have been surge related and fried some component.

what beeps are you hearing, describe the number of beeps and length of each one.

I did remove the graphics card and the motherboard booted to bios but the beep is a constant beep no stops or tones just one long consistent beep until I turn the power of

Just to add to Bruce’s response, remove the memory modules and if you have more than one try rebooting with just one module, and in different slots. Repeat with other modules as this can indicate which if any modules are at fault.

Another thing you could try, although a long shot, is to remove the mobo battery for a couple of minutes and reboot.

I’ve been told bye someone that I may have corrupted windows, as I have no other way of installing it I have ordered a cheap Windows install disc of ebay and I just hope that this works

Who on earth told you this, a continuous beep commonly means a problem with one of the following, power supply, MB or the keyboard.

Do you have a link so that we can take a look at what it is that you have purchased, Windows costs what it costs and anything that costs less than a legitimate Windows disk must have a reason as to why.

He says its possible because I’ve tried the ssd with the os on, on a known working mb and psu and I get the same response long continuous beep with a flashing cursor in the top left corner he also thinks this as wiping the whole pc and starting new involves wiping everything and then reinstalling windows after and I may have knocked of the power as it was doing something with windows.
Everything was working before I made this stupid mistake and the mb and ram are working perfectly as the mb boots into the bios and I can see all the ram there. Is there anything else you would suggest? Thank you

Can you answer the question regarding the link for the “cheap Windows install disc of ebay”

The blinking underscore is often a sign that Windows has hit the wall but to reiterate the long beep is hardware related and nothing to do with Windows.

What type of keyboard are you using USB or the wired PS/2 type.

Can I ask that you do not quote every reply, it really does not help and just makes for unnecessary reading, thanks.

Windows was not freshly installed on this ssd on this motherboard I swapped it over from a different motherboard but it was working perfectly fine fore a few days until I broke it.
I have not yet received the Windows disk but if you type it into ebay you will find it for less than £5 I am aware this isn’t genuine Windows as it doesn’t have a product key but I would rather k ow that my system works before I purchase a key. I am using a USB keyboard and mouse which works well in the bios.
When I remove the ssd it says cannot detect operating system disconnect any other hard drives and press cnt alt del but there is no beeping other than the first initial beep.
Could this mean it might be the ssd even though its basically brand new a few weeks ago?

You got lucky, you cannot swap a boot device from one computer and put it in another :cautious:

The reason why you are getting the blinking underscore is because Windows is trying to load the drivers for the previous MB, you haven’t broke anything the OS, product key and drivers on the SSD are just not compatible with the new MB.

The fact that the keyboard works in the BIOS and what happens when you remove the SSD more or less nails it that it is the software on the SSD that is the problem.

You are aware that Microsoft stores the Windows product keys and MB details on it`s database are you not.

You are allowed to clean install Windows for the first time without entering any product key however Microsoft will ask you for one at some point, they will recognise a non compliant product key far quicker though.

Okay thank you at least it’s windows and not anything else, I am going to clean install windows and once it’s all up and running my a product key from them just so I know I am not wasting anymore money. Thank you for your help

I can connect my ssd to my phone and format it or would you recommend not touching the ssd and just reinstalling windows on it?

Just clean install Windows and then the MB drivers and you should be fine, any data on the SSD will be erased as part of the installation procedure of Windows.
