    Weird Distortion in Windows Programs

So a friend of mine that I built a computer for is having a weird problem with their PC. Windows and other certain programs are being distorted randomly in certain locations. I first thought it was the graphics card and reinstalled the drivers but the problem still persisted. So I told him to plug the computer into a different monitor (TV with an HDMI instead of the DisplayPort monitor he currently uses) and even had him just factory reset the computer through windows. The problem still persists. The weird thing is that it only does this in specific programs and on the windows start menu or settings menu. If I open up some programs, for instance, OBS (open broadcast software) then there is no distortion at all. I haven’t really tried a lot of other programs but just found that odd and led me to think it was a software issue. Now I’m starting to think hardware. Here is what it looks like below and if you have any suggestions for ways to fix it, things I can test to make sure it is software and not hardware, anything at all comment away <3

These are all from using the ‘snipping tool’ in windows 10

    Try re-seating the display card.
Make sure that the cables are snug for the power if there are any for that card.
Remove the display card and see if it still happens on the on board display connection.
Does it do this in Safe Mode?

It’s also worth a try to disable windows from installing drivers and ONLY get drivers from the manufacturers website.

I believe I have told him to run it in safe mode but I’ll try it again just in case. I’ll have to go over to his house to reseat the card. Cables are snug as far as output cables. Not sure on power, I’ll make sure everything is snug when I get over there. I’ll update asap once he restarts in safe mode.

When you say only get drivers from manufacturer websites, how would that work? Are you talking about specific programs? Or everything, including windows defender anti-virus updates, kernal updates, etc?

In this case I am referring to stopping windows from installing hardware drivers to allow a manufacturers driver to be installed instead of Microsofts maybe working or not offerings.

As there are different methods and you have not indicated what version of Windows 10 you are using it may be best for you to try this method of disabling driver updates before installing the manufacturers one.

Stop automatic driver updates on Windows 10

Your video card is made by EVGA. Only use a driver from their website.

Gotcha, I also forgot to mention, he is using Windows 10 Home, Non-Activated. So by using EVGA’s drivers, that means no Nvidia Geforce?

Did the video card come with software to install? Why not uninstall then use that to re-install the drivers and software?

Use the drivers from EVGA’s site only. You only need the graphic driver anyway. The manufacturers drivers may have the full Nvidia suite of carp include which you will hopefully opt out of during install. The driver on any discs you have may be well and truly out of date?

And why is Windows not activated? Do this first.

Sorry for no response, I sent him a message asking him to see if it still does it in Safe Mode and he hasn’t sent me a message back since. I haven’t really had time to, but I have been meaning to go to his house and see what is up. I’m going to message him again tomorrow and then sunday I’ll just head over to his house and see what’s up. Sorry for no update
