Avast not installing

I downloaded Avast and it will not install. The bar scrolls back and forth fro 15 minutes and then I get a message.

Have you had a previous version of Avast installed before?

No I haven’t. I did stop it the first time I tried to install it. I thought it was getting hung up on Windows Firewall Control.

What other security software do you have installed? Depending on the answer to the other thread will merge these two.

I have VooDoo Shield, Windows Defender, and Windows Firewall Control.

I’m assuming that there is nothing of interest in the log.

Suggest remove Avast with THIS TOOL

And then try to install with an offline version HERE

Avast is a good choice of free security, if bloated and the ads which cannot be turned off in the free version are a worry. Bitdefender also has a good name.

Also disable voodoo shield whilst installing Avast

Avast is a good choice. All you need to do is disable adds and popups.
Go to Settings>General and check the box for Silent/gaming mode. This will disable messages, popups, and alerts in Avast.

Just so you know by installing Avast FREE you agree to receive promotional material from Avast regarding other Avast products, which you can’t disable. This is what I described as ads. No big deal but just be aware of it.

Other free security apps may do the same but it appears Avast have increased the promotions over that in the past.

That worked. It’s installed now - Thanks! Now I have to figure it out. It seems pretty straight forward.

During the initial scan it shows a few performance issues etc. Broken reg keys and a few other things etc. It appears I must have the payed for version to clean this stuff up with their software.

Another thing that’s weird is it shows my “key” is only good for 90 days? I though this was free for the long haul??

The free version is free forever (ATM) but they ask you to register with them, and then again every year. What I would suggest is to go to add remove programs, select Avast, then Change. That will bring up a dialogue to remove, or modify your installed version. Select modify and carefully remove some of the installed “extras” you don’t want, then reboot. This can achieve the same result as if you did a custom install of it.
