MS Office Pro 2016 Excel prompts for repair every so often

My 2016 MS Office Pro Excel has been great for a year. Now when every couple weeks it prompts me with an issue and asks to repair. I click on repair and then its good for a couple of weeks but it seems to pop up again.

Is it the same error message each time?
    What is the error message?
64/32 bit and what version of Windows?

It’s Win 10 64 bit. I’ll have to get a screen shot of the pop up error box. I think it says, Repair, Close, Report. Something like that.

Hi rustygriswold. Have you made sure that your Windows 10 OS is up to date by going to Start< Settings< Update and Security< Windows Update and checking for new updates?

There are a couple of updates in there but I don’t think they are related. I am updateing now. One was Qualcom and the other was for the display.

Ok cool. If you can, post a screenshot of that error message in your next reply so we can see what is going on with Microsoft Office.

I just had the error pop up again a couple of minutes ago. Attached below.

I also completed all pending windows updates.

also make sure you have all the latest Office updates.

and any chance you are running some sort of routine maintenance, and then after that, Excel shows the error?
                  say like CCleaner or similar.

ages ago, under Office 2007, if I ran CCleaner, that next time I used Word, I would have to repair install Office.

is it just Excel, or do all Office programs show the same error?

It’s just Excel as far as I have seen. I don’t recall running any maintenance programs when this occurred.

You may be on to something. When I load up Excel I did notice that it says “running in compatibility mode”. The interesting thing is was running this for over a year before the error started to pop up.

I tried what the link instructed and it said it couldn’t find the program? Weird.

Did you try running Microsoft Excel in Safe Mode to see if the same error message comes up?

I haven’t. The error is so sporadic I never know when it will occur. I could boot it up in safe mode 10 times and might not see it.

No, not with the PC in safe mode, start just Excel in safe mode.

There are instructions for running Microsoft Excel with the /safe switch in a video at the bottom of the link that I posted previously.
