Effective methods of recovering Word autosave files

My wife was working on her computer yesterday and had added 1200 words or so to her file in Microsoft Word 2010 (OS is Win 8) - she believes she had saved the file however the next day all her changes were gone.
I have attempted to find autosave files or recover unsaved documents - have tried a number of different methods for locating the files but to no success.
I have tried running recuva including a deep scan which has also not found anything.

Does anyone have any other recommended solutions?

First check that autosave is turned on. If so, look at the frequency of how often it is saved.
Tip: Change AutoRecovery Frequency in Word 2010 to Avoid Disasters
We use older versions of Office and my husband types a lot. He got into the habit years ago of pressing ctrl + S every few minutes to simply save what he is working on.

Finally here are places to look
