Word - text splits at end of line and drops part of word to line below

All of a sudden in Word the text has started to split at the end of a line and leaves part of the word on the line and the other part drops down to the next line and sometimes the words stops before the end of the line and the whole word drops to the next line
I have not made any changes - it was working fine and then the fault started
    I use Office 365
    Can someone help please

Not sure if you’re still looking for assistance, but right-click anywhere in the textfield your document and click Paragraph. Under Pagination, make sure your settings are the default:

There is a brute force solution for older versions of Office, but I don’t think that applies to Office 365. You must’ve accidentally hit a shortcut that changed your line breaks. Check this for now.

I apologise for the delay in replying
My broadband is by ADSL on my landline and the landline went down because a telegraph pole and cabling fell and my provider BT have not yet retored the pole but they have provided a temporary service
I have just followed the instructions by Alkajak and the settings are OK - so the problem is not yet fixed

So it is not every document then?

Have you check the paragraph setting or the auto correct to make sure there is nothing wonky there?

Yes it is just one document
If I copy the document and paste it into a blank word document the same fault occurs
If I just select a blank word document and start an entirely new document there is no problem
I know where paragraph settings are but what would I be looking for
Since I got Office 365 when I got a new laptop I can’t find my way round Word very easily - it seems very complicated - For years I used Word 2003 which I found muchn more user friendly
So I don’t know where auto correct is = probably staringb me in the face but I can’t just see it
