    Blue Screen Broke My Audio.

I had a bluescreen while i was away from my pc came back to the “start windows normally” option but thought nothing of it. Once logged in i noticed that no audio was working. the sound option in device manager shows the green bar moving as if audio is being played but when i go to the volume mixer it shows a empty bar on the program that should be showing green bar like in the sound manger. the “speaker” on the volume mixer is also not showing anything even though the sound manager “speaker” shows audio playing. I reinstalled my chipset driver and my realtek audio driver and got no change.

The audio is functioning again it fixed itself after i plugged in a second headphone into the second audio jack. i guess that reset the selected audio output but oddly the green bar on the volume mixer is still not working even though i can now hear the audio.

Usb PnP audio device (My Mic)

i checked to make sure all my drivers were up to date with my graphics and audio drivers

The reason i have 2 ethernet lan devices is because the pc was hit by static electricity after a lightning storm and the internet died on the motherboard. probably should have mentioned that before. anyways here is another picture showing that the speaker is getting audio but the volume mixer is not picking anything up.

the electric storm and ethernet failure was last year so i do not think it is related.

no exclamations besides the “SM Bus Controller” and i think that isn’t related. i can send another pic but it would be pointless. i think the blue screen may have broken something within windows. i feel like this pc has had another leg shot off but its still fighting.

I was hoping that after hours of working through this i might have missed something but i never in my life seen the volume mixer break even after reboot. I wonder if i will lose audio for good next time i get a blue screen.

Im gonna assume that we can call this “solved” even though volume mixer is broken i can hear audio now and the quality seems the same. I think i would need a clean install of windows to fix whatever happened because i don’t save restore points or anything. Ill make another thread if and when the audio is broken and cannot be fixed by my frantic attempts.

This is the driver that a motherboard relies on most as it is for the chipset that controls the functions of anything attached to the MB, right click on the device in Device Manager and then select update driver, any problems, post the brand and model name of the motherboard and the version of Windows that you are running, this includes it being 32 or 64 -bit.

just close it. i said i installed the INF which is the driver for the SM Bus Controller but it did not fix the volume mixer. instead of trying to fix it im just gonna live with the broken volume mixer i fear trying to fix it might lead to more work than what it is worth.
