    BSOD while gaming

Hi, been a long time since i last posted on this website, currently im running a brand new build which i just finished a few weeks ago.

Today i was playing and suddenly the game froze and i got a BSOD recalling the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error. A few days ago i was playing another game and also got a BSOD but i can’t recall which error.

Apparently all my drivers are up to date, and considering all my pieces are brand new, don’t think there’s a hardware problem, although a friend of mine has told me that a few batches of the new i9 9900k came faulty, but i havent felt the system as unstable as his when he was getting BSOD’s cuz of his CPU (considering his errors regarded Kernel problems).

Please could you guys point me in the right direction as to what should i do to keep my system stable?. Thanks a lot in advance.

      Hi jqweasd321, Welcome to PCHF!

Do the blue screens happen with every game you play? Are you overclocking any components? Have you updated your motherboards BIOS to the latest version? Have you installed Windows 10 version 1909?

Hi, thanks for the quick reply!.
        • Well thanks to work, i havent played as much as i’d like but both BSOD’s happend during different games. The 1st one was when i was playing CONTROL, and this one recently happend when i was playing Dark Siders 2 Deathinitive Edition. (Finished dark souls 3 without a single BSOD), i think i recall the BSOD in CONTROL was something called Watchdog violation, something like that.

Apparently was related to a driver so i downloaded an updater tool and updated a couple of the drivers that were listed (eventhough the updater that came with the mobo setup said everything was fine)
        • Nope not overclocking at all (as far as im concerned, haven’t touched anything o.o, surprisingly when i was playing control the CPU remained at 30% around
25-30 Cº and the GPU came up just to 60º with 50% fan speed.)
        • No i’ve got no idea if it has the latest bios, i figure it does since its the latest model of ASUS, but how can i check that out? in case i gotta update it, could u explain me how to do it please?
        • Yeah i got Windows 1909, dunno since when (to rule out the possibility that the update messed with the hardware support or something, cuz when i was researching the watch dog BSOD, it said it could be due to hardware incompatibility, i was like, errr can’t be xD)

I don’t want to get ahead of myself but wasn’t there a program u guys recommended to run on the pc so you could see much specifically the root of the problem? i’m talking about back in 2010 or so when i first asked for help on this forum. It runs a couple of checks on the pc and afterwards exports a .txt file.

Thank u very much in advance, sorry for the wall of text T_T i like explaining myself in detail.

You can download the latest BIOS version from this link, ROG STRIX Z390-E GAMING.

Yes that is using Speccy from this link, Adding System Details to your profile.

Ok, so i updated to bios to the latest version which came out in september, also ran the IntelME Update Tool just in case. Will update on how the system goes.

One thing that seemed weird is when i ran speccy it labeled my gpu as 4 gb instead of 8 gb, which i found kinda weird.

I’ll post again if i run into another BSOD thanks in advance, as always.
