    Game Install-Remote Procedure

Trying to install the old game Grand Prix 3 on my windows 10 machine. So far all other games install correctly,

But after putting my GP3 disc into my drive and starting the game install EXE, I get an error notice, ‘Setup failed to run installation, the remote procedure call failed’

I have checked for virus issues and all good. I have tried to run in admin mode and compatibility mode. Also I have run the various Dism tools and other tools with command prompt, Also I have turned of the firewall, AV and lowered the User account control.

Any ideas how I can get this game installed from my disc?

    Thanks!

Have you tried installing on another PC, the data on the disc could be corrupt, is it a retail disk in the proper packaging etc.

        You are welcome btw

Can you copy the files to the drive and run the exe from the drive.
          If no luck.
You could think about running it on either a dual boot with XP or a Virtual machine.

So as suggested I have tried another cd copy that I had and still same error.
Tried copying all the files from the cd to a folder on my desktop, ran the installer and same result.
Not yet tried on another of my laptops but I have a feeling that it is the laptop I am using that as something corrupt somewhere to stop the installer?

Hi Bruce. No solution as yet. I need to try the disc on another of my laptops, but not got round to that as yet. That would i suppose indicate that the problem is with the original laptop I was trying to install the game on.
Although if that’s the case it still doesn’t solve my issue as I want to play the game on that original laptop.

Have you tried a Virtual Machine with an old os?
                      Or dual boot with XP?

Hi Peter. I’ve never tried Virtual machine. I’ve heard of it but wouldn’t have a clue on how to set it up or where to get an OS from.
                        Thanks.

                          What is your OS?
If Windows Pro, it comes with Hyper-V, Microsoft’s built-in virtual machine, you just have to enable it.
Other VM software is Oracle VirtualBox, and VMWare Workstation.

Ideally, you don’t need to buy another OS, you may still have lying around an old XP CD.

Near my PC sometime today, so will try the virtual box. Watched a few videos on how to install.
Hi Bruce I’m not sure that I have the hyper V. My machine was originally Windows 8.1 and I upgraded, about 3-5 years back to Windows 10. After a infected system my local technician cleaned the machine and on his advice Installed Windows 10. Maybe that’s a problem there, changing os, with the issues I am having?

Thanks I will let you know how I go!

With Hyper-V. Microsoft includes it in their Pro versions, So Win10 Pro, Win11 Pro, and from memory Win7 Pro was the first.
So if you have a Home version, you’ll need to use a 3rd party VM software.
