Clock Speeds

Can somebody please explain to me why my performance and efficiency cores are capped while gaming, but mostly maxed out when I’m not gaming?

Is it because of the PSU? It only has a 4-pin connector for power, while my motherboard has a 4+2 pin connector.

MSI RTX 2060 Super
Intel i5-13500
4x Corsair Vengeance - OC 2933
PRO-B760-P-DDR4-II
ID-COOLING SE-207-XT Slim 135mm
Evga 600 W1, 80+ White 600W
WIN11

Out of game.

In Game.

Maybe nothing is wrong and this is normal and Im just overthinking it.

Is this a MSI brand?

CPU_PWR2 should only be needed if you have have serious CPU power requirements, like extreme over-clocking.
The 8-pin CPU_PWR1 is the one you should be using.

Let’s get some more information:

Download and run the free version of speccy.

Once you have ran speccy, publish the scan by going to: File > Publish Snapshot.

Please list your power supply unit (manufacturer and model)

It could be your +4 pins, those are generally reserved for overclocking- do you have the connectors available?

Here you go. http://speccy.piriform.com/results/i...kfw3uWeE3thihF

Sorry, I have the 8 Pin plugged in and the 4 Pin is empty. (I counted the first row, not the whole thing lol.)

Thank you for this.
I will be getting a new PSU shortly. This probably doesn’t matter, and I might have just gotten lucky, but my last rig had a 9600K overclocked to 5.1, and I never once had a problem with core speeds.

PSU is being replaced by a MSI MAG A650GL. That might fix the problem?

A 700W gold unit is required for your GPU to have the best experience- I am a fan of SeaSonic but Corsair’s higher end line RMx/RMe are decent as well.

I would not buy a PSU that doesn’t have at least a 10-Year warranty, check this list for some of the better PSUs.

Edit: I just noticed it’s a link - Sorry.
I’m guessing the GPU is taking to much power so the CPU is getting bottled necked?

A weak PSU will not be helping but you do not have the best RAM for you CPU, 3200MT/s is the sweet spot for your i5-13500 processor.

Heading out so only took a quick look at the Speccy report, one thing I will suggest is that you change the Windows Power Plan to Balanced, Ultra and High Performance are a form of overclocking that is known to cause stability and overheating issues and a weak PSU such as the one that you have will get hotter and weaker the more that you use it.

Changed RAM to two 4GB 3200 Sticks, changed nothing whatsoever when it comes to my CPU clock speeds and gave me maybe 2 more FPS.
Also changed power to balanced, still no change when it came to clock speeds. New PSU is coming today so I’ll test that.

But anyways, you can delete/lock this thread as I’ve posted somewhere else for help.
