Games crashing, windows 10 PC. My last place for help!

    Hi there!

A little background in my situation. I built my PC a few years back. And all is working correctly, or so I thought.

A couple years ago, I downloaded Sea of Thieves. I played about 60+ hours in the game back then. Then, one day, it just refused to launch. I was worried something was wrong and tried everything to find an answer. I got onto the forums for the game directly and found people with the same issue and getting the same response. ( This is the response they send you: https://support.seaofthieves.com/art...h%20the%20game .) of which I read through, and to the best of my limited knowledge tried each solution to no avail.

As of this taken my so long, I gave up as it was only one game. No harm done, plenty more to play. But know a couple weeks ago now. Another game, fortnite, stopped playing on my PC for my nephew. And now I am so unsure if there is any issue, if there is how to find what it is or could be and what I should do!

I’m just wondering if anyone has some suggestions. Of somewhere I could look? Sorry for the long winded message with not much details but I’m not really sure what someone may need but please feel free to ask and I will update.

P.s. I have a friend that built a clone of my PC ( got all the same hardware) and everything is running fine for him.

Let’s show all the hardware and software on the PC.

        Get Speccy by Piriform.
In Speccy, click File > Publish Snapshot > Copy to Clipboard > Close.
Paste that link into your post. Is Speccy safe?

        Get MiniToolBox by FarBar.
In MTB, tick List Installed Programs, click Go then close the program.
A file MTB.txt is created in the same folder, attach that in your post.

            How old are the games?
Have you updated the graphics card/s?
Have you checked for any BIOS updates?
Is Windows running the latest version?

So Sea of Thieves is about 4 years old.

Yeah my graphics card is up to date. (Just got the latest update this morning)

Windows is also running the latest version.

I can see there’s a bios update out last month. I will update to this this evening.

If the BIOS update doesn’t fix the problem then please try these:
Right click on start & choose powershell/terminal with admin & type/copy & paste these cmds one at a time then click Enter:
                Code:
                SFC /SCANNOW
                DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
                DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
                SFC /SCANNOW
Yes the Sfc cmd is run twice.

Hi! So Bios was updated, but no success with the game launching. I just finished the cmds you posted and it said there was a few things found, but after the second SFC /SCANNOW, it said there was nothing. Which I then restarted the PC and tried launching the game which is still stuck booting, and not going further than launching…

I can only suggest uninstalling the game using Revo uninstaller then allowing it to scan for leftovers then downloading a fresh version of the game or install from discs.
You could try launching the game whilst in safe mode with networking, this would rule out third party software interference.

What are A:\ and D:\ drives used for?
If only user storage, or nothing system related, disconnect them and see how things go.

Hi all! So I have the game installed on the A:\ drive. So I disconnected the D:\ drive. And tried booting the game but no difference.

I also booted in safe mode with networking. However the game will not launch without using the Easy Anti Cheat which will not work on safe mode apparently? I’m going to try uninstall and reinstall again.

I would disconnect A:, and reinstall the game onto C:.
Theory being, since no SMART values were shown, maybe the drive is faulty.

That makes sense! However, I have done this to no avail.

Create a new administrator account on the machine and try and launch the game from there. May need to install the game fresh under this account.

Also under your main account you could try a clean boot and see if the game launches.

Use Kill Em All – Prior to launching your game,

This will close all non windows programs and running processes non essential to your computer. Note: This will close your browser, so save anything if needed prior to running.
