Wifi vs cable

So atm I have ADSL but I’ve ordered the fibre that Orange are rolling out here in France.

I tested the current setup and got:
Wifi D/L speed 16.0 vs 15.4 for cable
With Diablo 3 I got latency of 37 vs 40 with a cable connection.
So, is it normal to get better performance over wifi than with a direct connection to the PC?
Atm I have the Orange Livebox 4 but when they connect the fibre it will be a Livebox 5 which is billed as better wifi performance. Given the layout of my house I shall probably have a wifi connection. Based on the above this should be perfectly OK for Diablo 3/4 and other games, I suppose?
Thanks for any help/opinions.

No, you should be getting better more stable via cable.

This may also depend on how many devices are currently connected and using the internet at that time.

Also, will depend on the CAT cable that you are using and the type.

Some security software can hinder the speeds.

What speeds are you getting during the day/night?

How do they compare to other devices connected to the same network?

Depending on the information provided and the OS on the system can provide the next steps.

First try unplugging the modem then after plugging it back in wait till all the light come on and test.

You can also post a speccy report.

Do not forget to post the make and model of the PSU if this is a desktop.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Do you happen to have any of the filters connected and where to what?

OK, let’s see.
No other devices are connected to the network, except my phone.
I don’t know what CAT cable I’m using, it just came with the system.
I’m using Norton security software.
I just tested the speeds once.
No other devices are connected to the network, except my phone.
I’m using Win10.
OK, I’ll look at the Speccy thing. But it’s going to change when the fibre/Livebox 5 is installed. I don’t need to try and improve he current setup which is fine.
It’s a desktop and I’ll try to find the information about the PSU.

In terms of what I asked, does anyone here have experience with the Orange fibre/Livebox 5 setup specifically running video games?
Thanks for your help.

Not sure if they are needed where you are or not see if this helps to explain it.

If the same happens after the DSL is swapped to Fiber and give a couple days to purpose itself. Then let us know and post the information.

May also want to invest into a CAT6 cable.

16 vs 15.4 and 37 vs 40 are well within the margin of error.
speed tests vary wildly per minute.
do it five times and you’ll get five different outcomes.
add to that; time of day, bandwidth, traffic, signal noise, and all the other potential variables and it’s hard to compare apples with apples.

and to elaborate the point, you may have WiFi6 wireless technology but only 100Mbps ethernet port, as a possible example.
