Please help! Newly built gaming PC

    Hi everyone,

My son has built 2 gaming PCs few years ago and had no issues at all, still going perfect. This time he built another one but we are having issues with it. The PC turns on but he’s unable to download windows. Can someone please advise what could be wrong? Could any parts be faulty?

Please help as my son is only 17 and I have no idea about PCs so if I can get help here then at least he can try to fix it.

    Thank you all in advance.

I’ll assume when he bought all the parts for the new PC, he also bought a Windows license.

On a PC that works, get the Windows Media Creation Tool and use that to create a bootable USB stick with the version of Windows you want to install on the new PC.
Set the new PC boot priority to boot from this USB stick first.

      Reinstall Win 10 Fresh Install

Make sure you only have the one (1) drive you want to install windows on connected.

Download the win 10 tool run it to recreate the flash drive – Must be minimum 8GB

      Download Windows 10

      Watch this video
How To Install Windows 10 From USB - YouTube

In the video at 2:35 Where to install Windows. Highlight each partition and delete.

Then install on the unallocated space.

In the video at 2:54 you will notice it restarts the computer.
When you are doing this and you get to that point Remove the usb stick whilst it is restarting.
Also if you want to setup a local account instead of logging in with a Microsoft account
Turn off your wireless network and or remove the network cable.
This point is 3.32 in the video - Choose I don’t have internet.
If you want to log in with a Microsoft account then leave the network as is.

Before doing any install, it is a good idea to go to the support page for your system. Download the drivers you are going to need i.e. chipset, sound, video, wireless, etc. Whilst Win10 has a lot of native drivers, Microsoft drivers are designed for ease of use and are NOT designed for any type of performance. Store these drivers on another usb or you can even just make a folder on your install usb when you are finished making the install usb. Copy the drivers into that folder.

When you are finished with the Windows install, then install your drivers.

      Reboot after installing the drivers

        Thank you, Bruce.

My son said he already did that but he gets this message ‘Windows couldn’t install in this location, please check your media drive’.

Do you know why it would say that?

Thank you for a detailed response, Peter. I will get my son to follow this and try again but do you know why it would show this message when he did try installing ‘Windows couldn’t install in this location, please check your media drive’

On the new PC, go into BIOS and check the boot drive is detected.
Usual method to get into BIOS is to hit F2, Del, or F10 - repeatedly - as the PC starts. (but other keys are sometimes used)

                Hi Bruce,

No, it still didn’t work and now no display on the screen. We took to the PC repair shop and waiting to find out what is wrong and whether they can fix it.

Could it be the motherboard? It’s the MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI DDR5 AM5 ATX Motherboard. The guy at the repair shop said this motherboard isn’t good or may be faulty.

Yes, it could be the motherboard, or any hardware component for that matter.
Could also be the drive not being detected, or not installed correctly.
And it could just as easily be an issue with how the whole thing was setup.

Hopefully the shop can sort it out.
And please let us know how you got on! (y)

                          From the OP.
Apologies for not responding as I had no updates. We had to take the PC to the store we purchased the motherboard from so they took a while to check and get back to us. They found that the motherboard was faulty which they replaced. The ssd card was also faulty as it was causing graphical glitches on screen and preventing the pc from booting so we purchased a new ssd card. Now the PC is ready for use.
