    2nd HDMI Port Issue

So, I’ve had my PC for a few years now and it’s treated me well. I got it pre built from AWD-IT in 2021. I was wanting to utilise the second HDMI Port in the back but found it wasn’t working. Was on technical support for a few hours and the only thing they came up with was that the port maybe needed cleaning out. Anyways, that was a few months ago and now this evening I’ve found something very interesting. Let’s play a game of spot the difference with HDMI 1 (My main monitor) and HDMI 2 (the “broken one”):

    HDMI 1___________________________HDMI 2

And for the answer (drumroll please)…

These 2 metal clasps are present and seem to be part of the casing, not the HDMI Port. It’s almost like a restraint so that when a cable is plugged in, the connection can’t be fully made. From the look of them, I think they could be removed. I think cutting them off would be better than bending them back since they go a bit into the port and I don’t want to damage it by forcing the clasps out. But I just wanted to check to see if these clasps are important or not. And if not, does anyone have some good suggestions on how to remove them so I can hopefully get this Port working again?

Also, just a little bonus, the PC came with this sticker on it saying that HDMI 1 is the Port for the Monitor. Almost like they didn’t want HDMI 2 to be used. Coincidence? I think not!

We need more info on your PC.

The top HDMI port is on the MB and the reason why the sticker is telling you to connect the monitor below is because you have an add on video card and unless you have changed the settings in the BIOS the add on GPU is the primary video device which means that the MBs video ports get disabled by default.

To add to what Phill is saying, on some Motherboards, you must enable the MB HDMI port in the BIOS.
It may or may not work with a discreet video card.

Ah I see. Thanks for clarifying. I’ve been looking at other options for dual monitors and noticed that the other ports alongside HDMI 1 are Display Ports. So would a Display to HDMI cable work for a second Monitor since these display ports are not on the MB?

To be able to answer with 100% certainty we will need either the Speccy url that was requested by our colleague or at the very least a link to the exact model of PC that you have, we need to know what GPU and how much RAM etc you have available, multiple screens requires more VRam, more system RAM and an appropriate spec of PSU to be able to provide the extra power, you purchased from a gaming PC provider so should be ok but we don`t do guess work and will always check to be sure.
