Need 1TB/2TB hard drive recommendations for my build

Below is my current PC build…I’m low on storage and need to add a hard drive. I’m looking for either a 1TB or 2TB hard drive depending on the price difference, I haven’t decided yet. I need some help picking one out though, thanks.

CPU	AMD Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor
Motherboard	Gigabyte B450 AORUS M Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard
RAM	G.Skill Aegis 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
Storage	Crucial P1 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive
Graphics/Video Card (GPU)	Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6 GB OC Video Card
Case	Phanteks Eclipse P400 ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply	Corsair CX (2017) 550 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

The biggest question is what is the system going to be used for?

1. 500 GB SSD for OS
2. External USB drives for storage/backups
   1-2) internal storage HDD (can be added down the line)

Partial to Samsung drives other may have more suggestions.

Why not use the M.2 for the OS?
