Contemplating upgrades, cost/benefit, compatibility questions.

My current components:

i5-10400

GTX 1660 Super

Asus XG43VQ (ultrawide)

3840 x 1200, 120 Htz, 1ms

I’m interested in improving the graphics performance, I realize that the monitor is likely the limiting factor here but would like to get the most out of it I can.

Here in lies my question (s)

Would upgrading, just the GPU to say a 3060 or 3060 ti give me enough of a performance upgrade to make the spend worthwhile with the current CPU, do I need to do both to get an appreciable improvement?

Fairly new to this so any advice would be appreciated

What will be the main use of the computer.

What is the brand and model name or number of the PSU.

What is the brand and model name or number of the MB.

What is the brand and model name or number of the RAM, how many sticks do you have + what is the capacity of the sticks.

What is the brand and model name or number of the case, how many internal cooling fans does it have and where in the case are they placed, front, rear, side, top etc.

The computer is used for day to day home PC stuff as well as some light video editing, and I have recently started Sim Racing and that is where I’m primarily interested in improving the graphics.

The PSU is a Thermaltake Toughpower 700w 80+ Gold

The motherboard is an Asus Prime B560-plus

The Ram is Crucial Ballistix 32Gb DDR4 (4x8) 3600Mhz

The case is an NZXT H510 there is a rear fan and provision for a top fan as well but not currently in place, if required I can add one, or for that matter whatever cooling might be required

Honest answer is that for your intended use there is zero need to upgrade anything hardware wise, the CPU is the weakest of your components but even that is above the minimum requirements recommended for Sim Racing, see info here

Your case can accommodate four fans in total going by the specs here consider adding one at the front to draw in cool clean air.

I appreciate the information and your input, my inability to reply sooner is as a result of having work done in my home that limits my access to my computer for periods of time.

1- 1 Tb Sata ssd OS, programs, etc.
1- 500 Gb Nvme Games
1-1Tb Nvme General storage

My answer was and still is sincere, having just completed a rig that would cost the equivalent of more than 7,500+ of your Canadian dollars for a rich kid to play Minecraft & Robolox I have seen enough, 2,484.81 for the video card alone
