    Gigabyte X58A RAM upgrade

Hello. Just wanted to check with the experts before I pull the trigger on this upgrade. I have the Gigabyte X58A-UD3R (Rev 2), and I’m having trouble verifying how large each module can be in order to reach the maximum 24Gb that the board allows. I’m looking at the Corsair sets, and my options seem to be a 6x4Gb set, or an 8x3Gb set. I’ve run into a bit of older info stating that the board will not recognize 8Gb modules, while others state that they “work fine” - but have not posted any actual numbers or detailed running specs. The only downside I can see to the 6x4 kit is that those heatsinks would be so close together - almost touching, I’d wonder if there wouldn’t be an issue. Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello ~Maxx,

For the best and most stable performance you should where possible always purchase a CPU and/or Ram that have been tested and approved by the motherboard manufacturer, this is referred to as the QVL ( qualified vendors list ) understand though that there are too many products released for them all to be tested so other hardware will be compatible but not proven to be.

Having checked three reliable sources I can safely say that your MBs BIOS is not capable of recognising RAM modules larger than 4GB, you can confirm this at the most reliable source here
