So recently I decided to upgrade my HDD(1tb) to an m.2 SSD(1tb). The trouble I’m having is deciding how to utilize it. Do I migrate all of my existing files on my HDD to my SSD…or do I utilize it to open certain games or files. Please let me know what you did when upgrading your HDD to an SSD or recommend some tips on how to go about utilizing my SSD. (also I would prefer to have my existing windows 10 on my SSD).

I just did a new build. I put the OS on the M.2 (1T) C drive. Installed all my small programs (office, power archiver, nero, etc) to run in C drive. Installed Flight Sim 2020 in C drive. Total in C drive is 205Gb. All other games installed in D drive (1T M.2 also). Everything else went to E drive (1T SSD).
I suggest that this would be a good time to freshly install windows on your SSD. Save the Hdd for backup, some games, some apps. You have room so you can use some space on C drive to install a few favorite games for better load times. Do not fill up your SSD. Must leave some space, does not like to be full.
I also suggest unless it is a new HDD, to replace this HDD with another SSD when you can afford it. It’s all about speed… -
I Agree with hackerballs do a fresh install of Win 10 do not fill up your C drive windows updates will do that for you.
Once you have your main programs and your main game on the ssd Step 1 is make a disc image so you can reinstall if needed.
After each major update make a new image. The HDD will be good for this and even better if it is in a caddy so that way it is not
continually spinning. The less space you take up on C drive the better.

I imaged the old HDD with Macrium & just restored this image to the new SSD.
You’d have to create their USB boot media to do this.Comment
