New build PC random shutdown

So recently I built my first PC:

Ryzen 5 3600
MSI Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ventus XS 6G (factory overclocked edition)
ASUS TUF Gaming B450 Plus gaming ATX
Corsair iCUE H100i PRO XT
AeroCool 850W 80 plus bronze
2 x 4GB ballistix 2400 MHz
Toshiba P300 1TB HDD
(250gb crucial ssd now disconnected)

BIOS all up to date, drivers installed, fresh install of windows as was a new pc.

So I built the pc around three weeks ago and it sporadically keeps crashing on me. It has happened multiple times when I have been downloading Origin, when I’ve been playing World of Warcraft and when I’ve just had it sat on the desktop!!!

When it initially happened I got stuck in the loop of ‘preparing automatic repair’ and then shutdown again. Fixed this by doing a clean install of windows but surprise surprise it happened again.

Managed to start up the PC (after anooother clean install) and run memtest, cinebench and heaven benchmark which all came back with good scores so I’m assuming RAM, CPU and GPU are not the issue.

Still experiencing random crashes so my next approach was to disconnect the ssd and install windows (yes clean install again & drivers) on a NEW hdd to see if the ssd was the issue. No prizes for guessing that the PC just crashed AGAIN and I am now feeling like smashing my head repeatedly into the keyboard!!

Could this be a motherboard issue?? A PSU issue?! I feel like I have tried everything and wanted to seek some wisdom before knowing whether to dismantle the whole pc to send the motherboard back!! Such a nightmare first build.

Have you tried just after the clean install and drives testing it for a bit. How did it run?

How does the system react in safe mode?

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

You could also attempt a Clean Boot to see what is giving you the issues.

It is so sporadic its hard to say, can sometimes be fine when just using internet browser and then just freaks out during downloads or games. Other times it will reboot when ive only just logged in.

For example, I wrote this comment and pressed reply and it reboots again! So unpredictable, I can’t trust this pc

Have you checked to make sure that all of the cables are seated correctly?
Does this happen in safe mode?
Did clean boot have any affect?
What is connected via USB? Does it help to have them disconnected?

All cables seated correctly. Still happens in safe mode. Tried clean boot multiple times and still no joy. I have speakers mouse and keyboard connected via usb.
I have posted on another forum too and someone suggested a psu issue.was so hopeful and replaced the psu just this morning… first boot up… crash :’( am I right to assume it’s the motherboard?

Only other thing’s I can think of is:

• try another SATA cable and perhaps a different SATA port on the mainboard.
• Assuming Win10 installs ok, does it run ok if you never connect it to the internet after a clean install? (therefore no updates / drivers pulled down)
• Last resort, setup the PSU, mainboard and gfx card outside of the case to eliminate any possibility of shorting from the case or brass stepoffs.

Tried booting from different drives on all SATA ports with different cables too also tried with no internet and no drivers but still get the same problem. At my wits end haha! Honestly thinking I might just get a new motherboard…

Another problem I am considering might be an issue is that my bootable USB has some corrupted files in it? I have a Mac as my other computer so had to borrow my brothers Windows laptop to create the drive. Could this be the root of the problem??

That is definitely could be the issue you should use a different thumb drive and created the drive from scratch.

If you are going to reuse the current thumb drive suggest that you format it to FAT 32.

Could be the motherboard could be the RAM.

Used memtest and RAM came back with no issues but will bear that in mind. Old psu was an aerocool integrator 850w, new one is Corsair cx550. Created a new bootable drive from my Mac but the pc doesn’t seem to want to boot from it… new mb arriving tomorrow so will pray that fixes it. If not I will be rocking back and forth in a dark room for the rest of the day

Still suggest to assemble it out side of the box to make sure that every thing works.
What is the make and model of the case that you are using?
