    Looking for a new CPU

Hi, I am thinking about upgrading my CPU because it is getting bottle-necked by my GPU. 1440p, 60+FPS. Willing to invest 300$+ for future upgrades. Any recommendations?

    Hello

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but It is not the CPU it is the MB that is the limiting factor of your hardware followed by the PSU, both are budget range items, the MB does not allow for overclocking which is the idea of having an unlocked Intel k processor and the CX PSU as is described by Corsair here is for basic system builds and desktop PC computer upgrades and therefore not ideal for high end GPUs.

agree with phillpower, that i5 although 4th gen is still 3.5GHz which isn’t bad.
your hard drive would also be another bottleneck.
        consider a SSD upgrade.

it’s a slippery slope when trying to remove bottlenecks - do you also consider your 1600 DDR3 and get DDR4 2600 if you upgrade the mobo.

        choices, choices, choices…

I see, any MB and PSU recommendations then? I’am kinda new to this whole PC thing, so any tips and recommendations would be appreciated. I have also forgotten to update the pcpartpicker link, I do have 16GB of ram.

Is there that big of a difference between DDR3 and DDR4?

Is it true that Z77, Z87 and Z97 chipset motherboards are the only ones that allow overclocking?

Not a financially viable option with the MB I`m afraid as not only will it cost hundreds of $s for any new MB but also the cost of a new licence key for Windows as you cannot reuse the OEI/OEM one that you are presently using.

The newer DDR4 is available in higher speeds than DDR3 - the two types of RAM slots on a MB are not compatible although there are hybrid MBs out there that have both DDR3 and DDR4 slots, these again would come at a high cost.

                In those chipset ranges, yes.
