5 short beeps, again

Hello,

Few weeks ago I bought x299 with 7800X and DDR4 HyperX Predator 4x4 3200. I assembled PC and before POST I had 5 beeps, which is CPU Failure according to AMI beeps. I decided to return Mobo and CPU. Bought X99 G1 Ultra Gaming and 6850k. This time I do have POST beep then 5 short beeps.. All other components PSU, SSD, HDD, GFX I do use in my current rig right now so these are not faulty. PSU is EVGA 650 Supernova P2

• clicking in background is me trying to get into bios
X299 was Gigabyte Gaming 3

I7 7800X

DDR4 HyperX Predator 4x4 3200Mhz

PSU EVGA Supernova P2 650W

GPU 1080 G1 Gaming

Case NZXT H2 Silent Classic

I had only 5 Short beeps nothing more, nothing less

After refound mobo/cpu I bought X99 Gigabyte Ultra Gaming and 6850K

I assembled it →
CPU 6850K

Mobo Ultra Gaming

DDR4 HyperX Predator 4x4 3200Mhz

GPU G1 Gaming 1080

PSU EVGA Supernova P2 650W

Case NZXT H2 Silent Classic

CPU cooler Noctua NH D14 with 2011-3 mounting kit

And with that there is a little Difference!

This video shows 1 POST beep then 5 Short Beeps. After some tests I noticed that memmory is DDR4_1_1A (one stick) works like 1 POST then 5 Short beeps and same goes with all _X_1X

But!

without memory and with 1 stick in DDR4_X_2X PC turn ON/OFF all time.

BUT not in combo of 2 sticks in DDR4_6_2C and DDR4_5_1C

I think with Memory in both DDR4_1_1A and DDR4_2_2A i had 5beeps too.

So what I am confused about right now is that with single channel _1X I got 5 beeps, but in single channel _2X PC turn ON/OFF without beeps or anything.
• Yes I did put standoffs under motherboard and these are in fixed positions
• Yes I did insert 12V CPU power properly 2x4pin
• Yes I did insert 24Pin into mobo properly
• Yes I did connect CPU_FAN properly but then again without it is the same problem
• Yes I did install mountkit to 2011-3 that noctua did send to me and it is touching CPU properly

I did try with all of with with GPU, without GPU, with SSD, without SSD, m.2 and so on.
• What I did not try is put all memory sticks into _2 Channel and try to start Mobo outside case on cardboard or so to check if there is same resoult outsite PC Case

Everything else but Mobo/RAm/M2/CPU I am using right now when I am typing this post so PSU is not faulty, Cooler is not faulty, GPU is not faulty and so on.

Currently I am using :

i7 4770

Kingston HyperX 1600Mhz

some random Gigabyte Mobo

I have no idea what else I can report about it to be honest..

EDIT : Just noticed.. below mobo i found some weird lookin pins?

Hi Biszek. Welcome to PCHF.
Sounds like a dead short to me.
I would be testing out of case on cardboard.
That Mobo will only accept up to 2133 Mhz, unless O/C
Common causes of shorts. Loose screw shorting out system, or riser in wrong place under Mobo.
I presume the Kingston HyperX 1600Mhz is DDR4

Hello,
Thanks for reply.

I know mobo will accept up to 2133Mhz, but it should underclock memory if XMP is not enabled so that shouldn’t be a problem..

And no. In my current rig I do use Kingston HyperX 1600 which is DDR3. in NEW build I went for 3200Mhz DDR4 HyperX Predators

And I was 100% sure that Mobo is well placed and all support bolts are in fixed position and do not touch Case at all

3200Mhz DDR4 HyperX Predators will not work in new build unless System is Overclocked. 2133 Mhz max.
I have a Z170X Gaming 7 board. The Ram slots are numbered Odd as well.

What is my best shot then? Get single DDR4 stick 2133 then enable XMP in bios?

I was told that RAM should underclock itself to 2xxx if necessary

I like 2 sticks (Dual channel) if you can afford. If one stick, it goes in the 4th slot away from CPU.
Two sticks slot 2 and 4 from the Cpu. Even DDR4 2400 Mhz would work.
One 8 GIG long Dim 2133 Mhz would work well.
Note the slots numbers here.

It is different in my Mobo that I got now it goes from Top to botton like

DDR4_1_1A - 5 beeps with 1 POST here When Both slots taken got 5 beeps too
DDR4_2_2A - PC turns ON then OFF here When Both slots taken got 5 beeps too
DDR4_3_1B - This was used when in Quad along with other _1X channels
DDR4_4_2B

CPU

DDR4_8_2D
DDR4_7_1D - this was used when in quad along with other _1X channels
DDR4_6_2C - PC turns ON then OFF here When Both slots taken got 5 beeps too
DDR4_5_1C - 5 beeps with 1 POST here When Both slots taken got 5 beeps too

Already did order 4GB crucial 2133. If I they manage to send it tommorow, ill try again with one stick 2133. But I am confused now. I never did use XMP before, but when XMP is not enabled, I was told that if RAM is OCed above supported range like in this case 2133 and 2400 are supported, anything above is OC, then my 3200 Predators should work fine but @ 2133/2400Mhz Max. Only when I enable XMP that should change to 3200 from what i’ve been told

… or I should just return mobo/cpu and buy Ryzen 1700x/1800x and be happy ?

I think that is premature.
I am still concerned about the cracking noise I heard in the video.
I would set it up in box while you are waiting and make sure all works before putting back in Tower.
You specified 4GB crucial 2133 DDR4 when you ordered?

which cracking noise? On first video, i was pushing del to get into bios if possible, i got mechanical keyboard
on second video, it was most likely dvd rom, forgot to unplug it !
on 3rd video - i have no idea what is going on here
Corsair DDR4 4GB Value Select Desktop PC/Computer RAM/Memory
bought whatever was first just to have it spare.
It was Corsair my bad

I am pretty 100% sure that I made no mistake while assembling PC. I have been doing that by myself for 20+ years already, and always do read manual slightly and whatsoever just to make sure there are no changes with anything. But at the end of the day, I am feeling bad about my rig change because so far only problems. and while I do have weekends to test thing out, during weekdays it is not as easy for me to find time and usually I prefer safe spot where is RMA. And other thing is I do only have one CPU cooler, so I may buy another just to have it as spare one.. and that’s what ill do I guess

Didn’t work. I am doing RMA on this and getting Ryzen 7. Thanks!
