Not a problem Nick just never had a BIOS be that picky.

When you get the image done turn off Legacy and back on the Secure Boot. After you do that check to see if the new setting hold.

It’s cloning right now, but while it’s doing that, I’ve thought of a question. How can you tell when an SSD is on its last legs? I know you have disk health and everything for HDDs with S.M.A.R.T., but how about SSDs?

They use SMART as well. Just NEVER defrag a SSD.

Well technically, there’s nothing to defrag… it’s solid state. But I imagine Windows doesn’t care and won’t stop you, so it’s good that we know that. Anyway, I’ve completed the installation of my 250gb Samsung 850 EVO SSD and 8gb of Crucial Ballstix 1600mhz 8gb (2x4) RAM, and the lapto ppowers on efforetlessly (after restoring BIOS settings). The way I measured my startup time difference was by adding Google Chrome and Microsoft Word to the startup list, so even after Windows booted, it’d have to launch those 2 programs. The startup time with the old setup was 2 minutes and 25 seconds, and the startup time with the new setup is 56 seconds. Shutdown time went from 28 seconds to 12 seconds. I will post my new benchmark later, and then we can finally call this thread solved.

While on the subject of SSD’s, anyone using SSDLIFE FREE PORTABLE.?
I think it is brilliant. Tells me everything I want to know about my SSD’s in an instant.

Yes Dougie, tried it and it seems very good. I originally put on the Samsung magician stuff but soon removed it.

Oh there is another one too called ssd-z, which is also portable and gives good info about the drive.

That’s fine. I have seven SAMSUNG 850 Evo’s. I have Samsung magician on all. I like it because it tells you more than Samsung magician.
                    Whatever rocks your boat, Gus.

Lol yeah, i was reluctant to do that because of the message the computer was giving me about not being able to boot if I changed that setting. It was right, but just restoring it after cloning thru DVD fixed it.

I use Samsung Magician because it tells me all I need to know. Terabytes written and the S.M.A.R.T. status.

I also run AS SSD Benchmark on a couple of other brands, I bought a long time ago.

Download AS SSD Benchmark - MajorGeeks
