What is this for?

You have only shown 1 plug side and not the other end.
at a guess it could be an HDMI to either a vga or dvi etc

It’s not a hdmi. It has one square side. Like have an hdmi plug on the computer.

Here is the other plug.

That end is VGA
The other end is either HDMI (my guess) or Display port.
A common use is for a newer computer to connect to an older monitor that does not have a HDMI or display port connection
