I bought a cheap unbranded 1TB HDD, knowing from experience that I can get a refund if it is fake and faulty. However, I’m confused. The drive passes all checks I’ve run - Windows CHKDSK and numerous free third-party programs - yet, when I began copying files to it for use as a backup, I started getting the kind of errors familiar to me from previous fake flash drives. Many, but not all, folders are empty. What might be going on here, that a drive can pass all checks but still be faulty? I can’t ask for a refund if I have no evidence in the form of error reports.
