    Microphone Doesn't Work

    -Corsair RM750
    -AMD R7 5800X
    -Silicon Power NVMe M2 gen3x4 2280 SSD
-ID Cooling SE 214 XT ARGB Cooler
    -Gigabyte Radeon RX 6800 XT
    -B550 MAG Tomahawk
    -G Skills DDR4 3600 8gb x2
    -Asus VG27A
    -Windows 11 Home

I can’t get any microphones to work with my PC; so far I’ve tried two gaming headsets and a lapel microphone. I’ve tried the rear I/O audio port on my motherboard and the mic input port on the front panel of my case. The rear port doesn’t register that a mic is connected. The front panel says the mic is connected, and registers audio input during testing (100% of volume), but it doesn’t pick up my voice when I try to use software.

Any thing I can try? I don’t think its a bad mic because I had the same problem with two gaming headsets.

    Hello

Go into device manager find the mic and see if you can get a driver update.

      What software?

Have you tried using a USB or XLR mic?

Just checked the drivers – they are up-to-date.

The software I’ve used is Voice Recorder and You Tube (the voice search feature). I haven’t tried USB or XLR.

          Just to clarify some information.

When recording using a head set not the speakers. For play back the speakers are ok.

Some Mic have an on off switch.

Under recording in Sounds is the audio bar showing anything.

Also, while there look under Communication Tab and try different setting see if they help.

Yeah, playback with the headsets was fine. The bar is green when I enabled the microphone, but further audio tests failed.

Maybe there is something wrong with the audio port on my motherboard since the 3.5mm jack on the front and rear don’t work. I will try a USB mic to see if it works.

I have to wait until next week until my microphone arrives, so I’m just letting you guys know now I’m not abandoning the thread.

                  Thanks

Which mic did you purchase. (make and model)

USB mic is working fine. I guess I have a problem with my motherboard as far as the 3.5mm input goes. I’m not going to bother trying to fix that, so this thread can be closed.

Thank you all for the help!

Onboard sound is not the best even with mine being a separate sound card it has issues.

Thank you for letting us know the outcome glad it is working out for you.
