Monitor stuck in power saving mode

I have an hp pc and a dell monitor. They connect with a dvi-d cable. Old stuff, I know, but up until three days ago it worked fine. I accidentally unplugged it and ever since then the monitor won’t come out of power saving mode. When I press the monitor buttons, it says it is not receiving any input from my computer. I’ve done every method of restarting the computer, taken out and cleaned the ram, also taken out and cleaned the graphics card, and replaced the motherboard battery with one which I know has a charge. The pc turns on fine, just the monitor apparently isn’t receiving a signal from it other than registering the connection. Also, the monitor and dvi-d cable are fine, they worked with a different device.

    Hello

Do you have another monitor to test with?

I just tested it with a newer monitor(also dell) and I got the same message. It didn’t detect a signal from the computer and went into power saving mode. I have also tested a new dvi-d cable and it still didn’t work.

with the graphics card removed, does your motherboard and process support integrated graphics where you can plug the screen into the motherboard?

Yes, it has an option for the dvi-d cable to plug into the graphics card or the motherboard. I have tried both options and gotten power saving mode for both.

when plugging the monitor into the motherboard, the add-on graphics card needs to be removed AND the processor needs to support inbuilt graphics.

Thank you very much, I removed the graphics card and my computer now works. However, since I always had the dvi d cable plugged into my motherboard, does that mean I’ve always been using integrated graphics? If so, is there a way to make my graphics card work so I can use that? I appreciate your help this was huge!

if a PC detects an add-on graphics card, the onboard graphic ports are disabled.
so if you had a cable going from the monitor to the motherboard port, and another cable going from the monitor to the add-on card port, the PC would have used the card’s port.

I have a vga cable and a dvi-d cable. If I plug the dvi-d cable into the card and the vga cable into my motherboard and then plug them both into my monitor would that work?

Replying to myself because I tried it and it worked. However, I have yet to see if my computer’s performance has improved.

it should work as the monitor would get its signal from the DVI cable as it’s the one plugged into the card and because the PC should have detected the card, the VGA port would be disabled.

Thank you for all your help! I pretty much had no idea what I was doing and I almost bought a new pc. Now my pc might even perform better than before. So yes, thank you!

                          all good.
we’ll close this as solved. (y)
