external hard drive isn't showing up, how to fix?

when I plug my external hard drive into my laptop it doesn’t appear in files, though it does appear on the taskbar after a few moments it disappears

thanks for the video though I think I should have elaborated a bit more sorry. I’ve been using this hard drive for a few months now but just today it has seemed to have just stopped working, it doesn’t even show up on disk management

nevermind, just fixed by plugging it into an old laptop then plugging it back into my main laptop
