    unknown usb device

Several days ago my system started booting slowly, and when it got to the Lock screen, the keyboard and mouse would not respond for a long time. When it did everything runs normally.

At first I thought the bios lost it’s setting but that wasn’t the case. After several days of searching, I found something in device manager. Under USB it says, "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed..) I reconnected any device that I’ve had plugged it at one time. tried right clicking and choosing uninstall only to have it come back. Can anyone help me straighten this out so my system starts up normally again. Thank you

If you remove all external USB devices does the entry disappear? If you uninstall the entry with no USB devices attached does the entry remain deleted?
If not then the hard drive may be failing.

Bastet, Thank you for responding. This a.m. I decided to try something we used to do years ago, “when in doubt, pull the plug.” It did resolve the issue with the slow boot and almost everything is back to normal.

There is one entry that popped up after the reboot that can’t be removed but isn’t effecting anything that I know of yet. I think it has to do with DEX which is samsungs mirror program. It lets you use your desktop or smart tv to browse your phone. The duplicate line appears under Sound, Video and game controller and system devices. There’s two of each and one is marked with the Yellow caution triangle. Maybe if a samsung owner see’s it they’ll know of a way to resolve it. Again Thank you!!

Fixed it. Removed my phone from the bluetooth list in windows 10 then reinstalled it. didn’t have to remove it from device manager as it did it itself. Thank you though!!!

The classic fixes often work well even with W10. Glad all is resolved.
          You’re welcome.
