    Microphone Not Working

It’s been quite a while since I posted on here and to my dismay, I have a friend with another issue I can’t see to fix.

Problem: Microphone does not work on the computer. It shows up in the Sound Control Panel and in Device Manager, but does not record sound or at least show that it does (doesn’t work in discord).

“Useful Information related to problem”/Cause: Friend bought a Logitech C922 Webcam, plugged it in, and the problem then arose and hasn’t stopped since.

    Things that have been tried:
    • Different Headset
    • Different USB port
    • Different Headphone port (front and back ports have been tried)
    • Reinstall Realtek Audio Manager
    • Reinstall Logitech G Hub
    • Downloaded Tweaking All in One Repair and did all the repairs on it that I could
    • Uninstalled Logitech Camera Software

The only thing I haven’t tried yet which is what I did as I left my friend’s house is reset his computer (the one where you “keep everything file related” but reset the OS and programs). So I’ll know by tomorrow whether that worked or not. Open to anything and will reply with more information as soon as I can. Thanks in advance!

    Cheers,

    Luke

Have you allowed access to the microphone (as well as the camera) under privacy?
Is the PC microphone se as default under sounds settings?

        @veeg @Bastet

Got in touch with my friend today, sadly the reset did not fix the issue.

In my “professional opinion,” it is 100% a software issue considering the issue arose when he plugged in the C922 Webcam he bought. I’ve had issues with Logitech G Hub before and peripherals, but never one like this. The microphone has access (as well as the webcam) and the Logitech microphone is set as the default under the sound settings. Not sure what my next course of action should be

One side note that I forgot to mention, I went over to his place and tried fixing it. When I went to open the Realtek Audio Manager, it would not open at all. I was in the Computer Files under /Program Files trying to open the Realtek Manager GUI and it would not open whatsoever, I ran the computer in safe mode and it worked, the issue still wasn’t fixed though.

Also, the headset he is trying to use is a USB headset/microphone*

        Thanks btw!

A thought - is there any microphone mute button on the headset? If yes then check to see if it is on.
I’d be surprised if this is affecting all headsets though. I suppose there may be a universal Microphone mute button somewhere.

There is a mute button on the headset, that was the first thing I tried when he told me about the problem lol It is weird because it is doing this with all of his headsets and one that I gave him. I gave him a HyperX Cloud Alpha headset (not Logitech branded) and the issue still arose.

Check that Microphone hasn’t been altered/disabled under Windows mobility centre/accessibility options.

If I may, what exactly do you mean by that, I don’t know what settings under accessibility would change something to turn microphones off.

Also, the microphone is recognized in the programs he uses like discord, it just does not work for whatever reason.

I can’t find the link but it mentioned a setting under those places to disable the microphone.
As it’s recognised but doesn’t work then either the port is faulty (unlikely as it’s recognised) or there’s a mute option somewhere which is affecting all headsets.
If you rarely use the microphone, deactivating it is a good security measure. Learn the different methods to deactivate a microphone in Windows 10.

Ok, so it’s fixed, the microphone was turned off in the privacy settings XD. Forgot that was a thing, and he said he didn’t change that to begin with. Thanks so much for the help @Bastet and @veeg <3

Glad to hear the problem was fixed. I mentioned checking under Privacy in my first reply.
