make sure the cable from the monitor goes to your graphics card in the PC - either the on-board open it came with or an add-on card that was installed.
check the video source on the monitor matches the cable type, that is, HDMI, VGA, DVI or DisplayPort.
does the PC sound like it is starting normally - beeps, lights, fan noises?
has this only started happening recently - any changes: new hardware, new software, PC moved?
Have you tried using another monitor to rule out that the computer is working properly? Have you tried swapping out the connection cables to the monitor such as VGA, HDMI, Display Port to make sure its not a faulty cable?
