I recently upgraded my PC. I upgraded my GPU to a Nvidia RTX 2080ti, Asus ROG STRIX X470-F MB, and Ryzen 7 3700X CPU. With my old system (Geforce 760 GPU if it matters), I had two TVs connected (yes, I use TV’s instead of monitors lol) to my PC and could select sound from either TV. This worked great if I wanted to play my PS4 and also have a movie going, watch Cable TV with the wife or kids and also surf the internet, etc. I would just go into sound manager and select the other TV. With my new GPU, when I go to change to my other TV, it no longer sees it as a sound source. Both TVs are plugged into the GPU (as opposed to one HDMI going into the MB). Is there a fix for this that anyone knows of?
Yes I do. I have found a way to get sound from the other TV by connecting a displayport to HDMI adapter but now have an issue where I’ll turn things on and the sound from my main display, which is connected directly to the GPU with the only HDMI port, will not work at all and I’ll need to use the other TV. Also, is there a way to have sound come out of both?
how were both TV’s originally connected?
sounds like one TV went into the mobo HDMI port and the other TV into the GPU’s HDMI port?
therefore two independent audio sources.
and now both TV’s go into the new GPU?
one into HDMI and the other into a DisplayPort via a HDMI adapter?
no audio settings have changed in Control Panel?
go into your sound settings and see what is the default output device.
you have the latest sound drivers for your mobo and driver for the new GPU?
although DP does do audio (like HDMI), sometimes it’s set to ‘optional’ by default, so check all the sound settings.
also, I’m wondering if the adapter is not quite kosher.
try a male/male audio cable from the PC’s mobo socket to one of the TV’s.
that way you again have two discrete audio sources.
First up you dont say what OS you are using so we will assume its windows 10???
If you have changed your CPU, GPU and motherboard the very fist thing you need to do is reinstall windows. This will serve two purposes, firstly addressing license issues, and secondly getting rid of your older drivers that may be causing conflict issues.
Also when you get new drivers for your motherboard, GPU etc ONLY get them from the manufacturer of your hardware AND NOT VIA WINDOWS.
You are correct with how they used to be connected. Though one was a DVI plug on the back of the PC with an HDMI adapter.
Now they are both into GPU as you said. One direct to the HDMI and the other to the DP and adapted to an HDMI.
No audio settings changed. When I go into sound settings. It will now see both TVs. I haven’t had the issue I posted in an update where the sound would stop working on my main display and only work on my other display (losing the ability to choose).
I have all current drivers. I made sure to check and make sure all up to date.
The issue is no longer that both TVs will not work. As I mentioned in my update, the DP adapter fixed the issue with the other TV not being discovered. What I am now hoping is to find a way to have both TVs give sound at the same time so I can just use them both instead of choosing one over the other.
Thank you very much for your response.

Reinstalling Windows is problematic. When I built this PC originally, it was on Windows 8. Then when 10 came out, they offered me a free upgrade. So I do not have a disk from which I can reinstall Windows without paying or it again.
I am planning on intalling an m2 for the OS so I plan on tackling the issue fully once I have bought the component.

Regardless if reinstalling Windows will be a problem it will have to be reinstalled fresh if you want a stable system that works. Windows 10 can be downloaded free and legally from Microsoft. Your call about the license.
