Someone used my computer yesterday and since then my external speakers, which are connected to my monitor, are not working with Windows 10. However, when I change my monitor’s input to HDMI (which my Switch is connected to), there are no issues. Similarly, I connected the speakers to my laptop and they worked just fine. My PC is connected to my monitor via DisplayPort, and I have never ever had this issue before. Any ideas?

Welcome to PCHF ally_garton,
Issues such as this can happen at any time and sometimes all it takes is restarting the computer, have you done this? -

It will not be a driver issue else you would not get any sound at all.
Have you tried a system restore point that is before this first happened.
Got to go out for a few hrs shortly but will check back later, can you do the following for us meanwhile.
Originally posted by ally_garton(which my Switch is connected to),
Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.
To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:
In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.
Can I ask that you do not quote every reply, it really does not help any and just makes for unnecessary reading, thanks.Comment

I can’t do a system restore as I didn’t have system protection turned on - this has already been suggested to me.

Thank you for trying to help - I have fixed it. The person who used my computer changed my refresh rate and presumably DP didn’t have a bandwidth to cope, and so shut off its audio in favour of the display.Comment
