I just got done watching the latest Linus Tech Tips video, which was about a video card that used all Ethernet connections. My question is, can I do this using the Ethernet port on my laptop, connected to the Ethernet port on my TV? Or does it have to specifically be a video card Ethernet port? Since I am currently having connection issues with my TV connected via HDMI to my laptop, this would be a good alternative if it worked.
My laptop is a HP ProBook 450 G3, my TV is a RCA 55" 4K TV, model number rnsmu5536.
yeah, I saw this post this morning and straight away went - No, you cant transmit video over ethernet! - then stepped back and realised my knowledge of such things is very outdated so refrained from tagging in without the proper 20mins of hardcore Googling.
if the new graphics cards have an ethernet port then so be it but I’m 99% sure the good 'ol ethernet ports on the motherboards are just that - data ports.
That’s what I was kind of thinking, but again I have no idea. I suppose I could contact HP and ask them but I’m assuming they probably have no idea. Plus it can get pretty frustrating trying to talk to there India based support team. I know this thread can’t stay open forever but i’d like to keep it open for a while and see if anyone else knows.
Yes, that’s the video I’m talking about. So basically they just enede up using RJ45 ports in place of the standard video output ports? And since the RJ45 port on my laptop is not attached to an actual video card, then it is just a port used for data transfer, not video data/audio transfer? That kind of sucks I was hoping it would work, But oh well.
