Changing CRT refresh rate

Hello,I bought Eizo T57S CRT monitor.Its specification is 1280 x 1024 85Hz.I have it connected to Win 10 with Nvidia Quadro P620 gpu.Since the gpu have only mini display port and the monitor accepts VGA,I got Akasa miniDisplayPort > VGA converter.

When I was reading about CRTs,I read that they can sacrifice resolution for refresh rate.My problem is that I have no idea how to change the monitor refresh rate.I can change resolution in Windows but no matter what resolution I set it,it shows in the monitors settings that its running at 60 Hz,it also flickers and I feel weird when looking at it for longer time,its like my eye balls and brain are getting tired from the subtle rapid flickering.

How can I change refresh rate? Is it so that only with Windows XP and VGA output old graphics card can I set it? Is it even possible to set it with Win 10 and Pascal Nvidia card? I did some brief googling and found some comment that the converter clock is so low it allows only 2048 x 1536 at 60 Hz.That isnt even that bad as long as the refresh rate/resolution sacrifice thing works,I should be able to get 1280 x 1024 85Hz no problem but I fear that the miniDisplayPort to VGA converter sets the refresh rate to 60 Hz no matter what resolution and there is nothing that can be done about it.

I appreciate that you are trying to help me but there is nothing in that manual that shows how to change the frequency.The only interesting thing that I found inside is mention of “graphics card utility program” for setting frequencies.

Can Nvidia Quadro P series card change the CRT refresh rate when connected through displayPort > VGA converter?

See if you have a gamma setting i read that is useful,also the monitor is supposedly preset with it’s refresh rates. Also this was also mentioned .

The monitor preset is 1280 x 1024 85Hz… it runs at 60 Hz.Also,I dont understand what do you mean by recommending 1024 x 768 100Hz when the entire point of this thread is that I am unable to change the frequency.

The problem I think is in the adapter/converter,its fixed 60 Hz,it was probably made for VGA LCDs,they didnt expect someone would use it for CRT.I found the spec of similiar adapter and it says 60 Hz max,also I found some thread about apple adapter and some man with crt and he too was stuck at 60 Hz.

I am not 100% sure,but I am almost certain that using CRT with cheap VGA adapter is impossible becose you get stuck at 60 Hz no matter what resolution and that is just bad for the eyes.Unless you have native VGA output card,you cant use CRT.

Maybe there is some VGA adapter specifically made for CRTs so you can use higher frequencies but I never saw one.If anyone knows about such device,please let me know.Its hard lession and I am sad,it wasnt expensive but I was so excited and happy to use good old CRT again.This one was hardly used and has the Sony Trinitron tube,the image quality is stunning,the blacks are so deep,motion so sharp and viewing angles better than IPS but that 60 Hz flicker is killing me.

I hope this thread will serve as warning for other people who plan to get CRT so they dont end up making the same mistake.Either get old VGA card,or make sure your VGA adapter supports 60Hz+ frequencies.

Yeah i wasn’t recommending that 100 Hz frequency that came from a link i was reading. I looked at a you tube vid on a guy trying that with a game,it seems the flicker will not go away no matter what setting. Hopefully there will be a fix.

It’s an 18 year old monitor designed for Windows 9x. I found a thread from 2002 that said in order to run at a different refresh rate, you need to use a generic driver and not one for T57s.

I have no idea where to find a generic CRT monitor driver.
You also need to be sure that Windows 10 doesn’t keep assigning a driver that it thinks might be the correct one.

Generic driver? I dont even know what I am supposed to imagine.Is there like some generic CRT driver that would work in Win 10 on Pascal series Quadro card?

Nvidia drivers allow to increase frequency,but when I tried it I had only 60 Hz as option,becose I believe the VGA adapter is fixed 60 Hz.

No updates,I cant even atempt to try that custom resolution utility becose my mouse doesnt work,I cant do anything with that PC other than open bios.I have other thread here open right now about the mouse,when I get it working I will try this utility.

I installed Win 7 and now I can run the monitor at 75 Hz unlike the Win 10 that was limited to 60 Hz,I have no idea why its like that.This tells me that VGA adapter isnt limited to 60 Hz,I think I might be able to somehow reach 85 Hz but I dont know why,to be honest I decided to not investigate this further becose I dont want to use CRT anymore.

I briefly tried that Custom Resolution Utility but have no idea what it does and I am too lazy to read and learn about it,I thought it will let me crank it to 85 Hz but it seems like its some weird driver thing.Mods feel free to label this thread as solved.
