    Monitor

My computer doesn’t seem to register my monitor. Before I switch the desktop on, the monitor light flashes. After I switch the desktop on the monitor light still flashes as if there was no monitor connected.

Hi there @Michael Shallard and welcome to PCHF

We need some more information about your machine

Please go HERE and download the portable version of Speccy. Save it to somewhere you can find, locate the file and as it comes as a Zip file use your favorite unzip application to decompress it. Open the newly created folder and double left click Speccy.exe if you have a 32 bit system or Speccy64.exe if yours is 64bit. If you are not sure what your system is click HERE.

Speccy will open and after a short wait will display a summary of your system specs.
    [ol]
[li]Click on the file menu.[/li][li]Then click Publish snapshot.[/li][/ol]

A dialogue box will ask you to confirm, select yes.

    Another dialogue box will open
    [ol]
    [li]Click Copy to Clipboard.[/li][li]Then click Close.[/li][/ol]

Now that your link has been copied please paste it into your next post. It should look something like the example below

BTW: once you have finished with speccy and no longer want it removing it is easy because it is a portable app with no install. Simply delete the downloaded file and folder you created when you decompressed it. Gone:thumbsup:

Thanks for your time jmarket but I can’t run this program on the computer that has the problem. I am communicating via a laptop next to my desktop computer.

If you can get your hands on another monitor and try that. This may help us with your issue.

Look on the back of the system and see if there if you are plugged in to the on-board or the video card.

My bad Michael. I misread it lol

Unfortunately PC repair requires ruling things out, and unless you have another monitor to try, there’s no 100% way to know what’s causing the issue.

It could be the graphics card, motherboard, monitor… Without testing these out, there’s no way to know.

Well done Rustys. I have got another connector that will take my monitor and it appears to work!!! It is now trying to fix some problems that I had while booting(I hope they are not too hard)

Not a problem Michael. Do you consider the Monitor issue resolved?
