The PC only has a DVI or HDMI point port (no VGA) so I need the adapter to connect it at all. When not connecting to the PC and just running one end of the VGA cable into the monitor with nothing on the other end, it doesn’t turn off as it otherwise would.

Can you have a look around the motherboard (the big circuit board with the fan marked Intel) and see if you can find some more ID information on it, or perhaps take some more detailed pics of it?

So I take it the monitor only has a D-sub connector?
like this

Have you a spare monitor you can test the pc with?

Just tried spare monitor- same problem. Yes both monitors only have the d-sub connector. Took some more pictures- not sure if they are exactly what you want or not:

Some ID numbers I can see are N12270, MAC 000DFE071E8B

Another thing I just noticed- when both monitor and PC are all plugged in and connected and the little light is orange, when I press one of the other buttons on the monitor, it says it’s in power save mode and to press a key or move the mouse. However, when I do either of those things nothing happens.

This is an old pc, can you take a detailed photo of all the back panel connections please, with that adapter off. Seems an old Pc to have HDMI? It is a socket 775.

Somewhere on that motherboard will be a brand and model?

Ok have tried to take a better photo of the motherboard- not sure if you just wanted a general overview picture or of something specific. Also took photo of connections on back.

Your motherboard is an Intel DG451D. The manual for it is HERE. Can you advise what video connections you have on your monitor please?

Ok thanks for that. The only video connections on the monitor is 1 VGA port.

Can we be sure what you mean by VGA, is it a D-sub? Like this.

Also your PC has 2 tv tuner cards fitted. If you do not plan on using these ancient cards please remove them.

Sorry to ask 50 questions but we want to be sure of it.

I always thought it was a VGA port but here is a picture of it and I’ll leave you to decide what it is since I really know nothing.

When I bought the adapter it said it was a VGA to DVI adapter so I’m pretty sure it is a VGA port then I guess…

Lets start afresh. Connect your monitor to your pc with the video cable, yes you will need the adapter to go on the pc end to the DVI port. Do not connect anything to the HDMI port on the PC. See what the result is?

Would recommend removal of the two tuner cards.

Ok yes did the setup as you said. Monitor is stuck in power save mode. When I press the power button, the little light goes green for half a second then goes back to orange. At the same time the message “in power save mode, press any key on keyboard or move mouse” appears on the screen. Doing either of those options does not produce any result however.

How do you remove the tuner cards?

We will show you how to remove the old tuner cards, but first can you try the adapter, video cable, and monitor on another pc?

One screw to remove as per picture to remove expansion card
