Wake/Sleep function in Ipad Pro 9.7

    Hello, guys,

I recently got a second hand Ipad Pro 9.7 with an Apple Pencil. I couldn’t find a case with pencil holder specifically for my model, so I got an Ipad 5/6 cover (just a cheap one, not an Apple one). The ipad fits and I am pretty satisfied, but the cover top doesn’t quite get fixed to the screen when closed. I realized that’s because of the magnets position, which I guess it’s different in the Ipads 5 and 6. Does anybody have experience changing the position of the magnets in these covers? Also, I read somewhere that the magnets can mess around with the compass and other functions of the Ipad. Can I ruin the magnets or those functions in my Ipad by relocating the cover magnets or just by using this kind of covers? Thank you!

sounds like simply getting a cover that matches the iPad would be the best way forward!

Hello, Bruce! Thank you for your response. The problem is I can’t find a cover specifically for this model coming with a hole for the Apple Pencil in my country. Besides, I already paid for the one I have and would like to keep it.

in that case you’re up for manually relocating the embedded case magnets to their correct places that correlate to that iPad.
it’ll probably look down-and-dirty, and you’re up for re-attaching said magnets without the actual magnetic force pulling them out of the cover, but it should work.

classic β€œsuck it and see” exercise! (y)

Yes, I think I will do that, but I am still concerned about the compass and magnetometer. To be honest, the conversation here made me be concerned: Do the magnets in β€˜smart’ covers disturb … - Apple Community What do you think?

PS. Let me know if I am not allowed to post external links.

if you are relocating the case magnets to where they should go to match your iPad, there will be no issue as you are manually placing them where they would be if you had a proper case that matched the iPad.

so going to a store and looking at a case for your make/model of iPad would help - otherwise you’re guessing where to relocate the magnets.

Can you remove the magnets and use velcro dots to hold it closed?
something like this Click on me
A pic of your current cover would help
