Adding .png to the end of the file should automatically send it to your photo viewing program(s).
Your program might also have an import option, you could try this as well with the specific folder and files.
I would also like to encourage you to make sure these are in fact your photos, if you mistook an old program or text document it will not make any sense no matter what photo viewer you open it with.
The Samsung back up only works if they have turned it on and have it running in the background. I have mine set to manual. Yet still a good place to check.
At least hopefully now you have some other ways to back up your photos.
people who have recovered files using Recuva have a bit of luck using IrfanView as the picture viewer.
see if that helps your case.
unlikely, sadly, as Recuva really only is successful if the deleted file was not fragmented.
do you know the size of the amount of photos you tried to transfer, and if so, has your hard drive capacity on the laptop gone down but roughly that much?
did you know what any of the filenames were of the photos, and tried using File Explorer search to find them? in case you pasted into another folder than what you thought.
