Hi, these days after factory resetting to prevent crazy battery drain, I am having the problems of my note 3 auto restarting every now and then. It is usually when I open a new app.
For ex: I am using instagram, it works fine, but the next moment when I open a new app, let’s take the simple phone dialing app as the example, i open the phone and tried to dial a number, it restarts. Before restarting, it hangs for a while and then restarts.
Yesterday, I even had a problem where the whole phone turned off and didn’t respond to anything for a while. That happened while in the middle of charging. It turned on after a minute or two, but till then it didn’t respond to anything, even taking off battery and putting it back.

I have tried the solutions in the internet where they said memory card was the problem, which I have taken out and don’t use now.
my note 3 is in 5.0 lollipop version. I can’t find the kitkat version to downgrade in the internet (sammobile needs premium subscription to download old firmware) so I don’t know if it will work or not.
Btw, before factory resetting, except the battery drain, there was no restarting problem as far as I can remember. I haven’t installed a lot of apps too, the nova launcher was installed cause the default launcher drained a lot.

Edit: the auto restart can be at anytime and not only at the above case. Like: I am using it and suddenly it hangs, then restarts. It happens from time to time only though, not too frequently (though it did happen back to back earlier today when I tried to phone)

apps are not using up memory though. the highest is by settings which is using 123 mb.

My Note 4 had the same issue towards its end-of-life; random restarts, especially under stress, even while plugged in and charging. Factory resetting would only be a temporary fix for a few days before it started occurring again. This continued until the device simply stopped booting. You should regularly back up your local files, your phone may be on its last stand.

It didn’t happen until I factory reset so I doubt it is because of the mobile being on the end of its life. I have had it for about 2 years and I usually don’t use it much, probably about an hour a day.

The only way to know for sure would be to factory reset it again. If the issue reoccurs, then it’s more likely hardware than software.

uhh I didn’t get any solutions, so no update. But it has been restarting less these days. one restart in couple of days or so.

Then it’s unlikely that it is software-related. It is either an internal hardware issue, or faulty battery that doesn’t keep the phone powered on.

Process of elimination; If you know anyone with the same model, swap batteries with them for a few hours and see if it occurs again. If it occurs again, then that rules out the battery and leaves an internal hardware issue, regardless of your doubt about it being a hardware issue.

See if it happens in safe mode.
To get into “Safe Mode” please do the following.

1. First turn off the phone.
2. Next press and hold “Power” until you see the manufacturers logo on the screen, then release the power button.
3. “Quickly” press “Volume Down” and hold it for few seconds until you see the message “Safe mode: ON” or something similar.
4. If you wanted disable it, simply repeat the steps above, and you should see “Safe Mode: OFF” rather than on.

If the problem doesn’t happen in that mode, then it is something on the device. However, if it happens even in “Safe Mode” then it could be the OS or even hardware.

It is working properly now after I changed the launcher. I don’t know what problem my system launcher was having but changing the launcher worked. Thank you for replying.
