The tech couldn’t fix it, unfortunately. They were very kind not to charge me anything though. I was expecting this outcome so I’m not overly disappointed. I have everything I need backed up on my old laptop, which is working well enough for my needs at the moment; I only upgraded to help me through uni, but I’ve now graduated and don’t use my laptop as much anymore. I think I’ve learned my lesson to a) not buy a refurbished laptop for the sake of saving some money, and b) always triple check the specs before buying any accessories. Thank you so much for all your help. If the issue were fixable, I’m sure you would’ve solved it for me!

So what are your plans for the laptop now?
Getting it fixed, or assigning it to the trash pile?

I ask because if getting rid of it, you could at least remove its drive and put that into an external enclosure.
That will give you a backup device.

It seems that getting it fixed would involve replacing the MB, which would cost more than I bought it for. I will definitely look into recovering my data, even though most of it is still on the old laptop, and then using the hard drive as a backup. Thanks!

              Sounds like a plan.
Anything else or shall we close this now?
