    Kernel-power ( problem )

    hi

    i have a dell laptop running :
    windows 11 home
    64 bit
    AMD Ryzen 3 3250U processor

    in the last 2 days i have had 2 shutdowns unexpectantly . in event viewr it says the critical issue was a Kernel Power problem

    i had the same problem about 18 months ago but nothing since then until this week .

    the laptop is not overclocked

    all power options are set to never and fast start up is disabled

    the power cord is always plugged in and the battery is 100%

    i ran sfc /scannow and CHKDSK , it did fix some issues but the problem still occurred

    there is no file in the mini dump folder .

    i have just updated the graphics driver .

    i would appreciate any help . thanks very much

    Have you made sure that crash dmps are enabled on the computer.

    See Configure the dump type info, you want to select the small/mini memory dmp option.
    1. Copy any dmp files from C:\Windows\Minidump onto the desktop.
    2. Select all of them, right-click on one, and click on Send To> New Compressed (zipped) Folder.
    3. Upload the zip folder using the Attach button, bottom left of the dialogue input box

      i have changed it to small memory dump from automatic

      i have attached the mini dumps, but i don’t think any of the dates of the files are from the latest crash , but i’s possible they may contain something from precious kernel power problems

        Thanks for the dmps but alas they do not help, unless an issue is recurring crash dmps more than a couple of days old are of no use I`m afraid, this because updates are constantly being released to address known issues and the issue that you have been having may well have been fixed by a recent update, if we do see the same cause days or weeks etc later we know that the issue has not been fixed so needs investigation.

        We need to wait on any new crash dmps for now but fwiw your most recent crash on Jan 11th of this year was caused by AMD drivers, while we wait can you do the below for us;

        Download then run Speccy ( free ) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

        To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

        In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

        In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

        Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

        Then;

        Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.

        Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options;

        List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
        List Installed Programs
        List Devices (Only Problems)
        List Users, Partitions and Memory size

        Click on Go.

        Post the resulting log in your next reply for us if you will.

          i will do all the things you have asked , but i hope you don’t think i am being rude but would it be ok to send you these files tomorrow as i have to go out in about 5 minutes .

                  You have a couple of issues going on there but for now I will just mention the two most important;
                  CPU

                  Your CPU is being cooked and most likely by the fact that you only have the one stick of RAM working at circa 800MHz, this is causing a bottleneck on its own but coupled with the fact that you also have an external display hooked up which adds additional load to the CPU due to that being what provides you video, add all this together and you get the above and the below;
                  Physical Memory
                  [COLOR=rgb(184, 49, 47)]Memory Usage: 91 %

                  The high memory usage means that there is no temporary data storage space available which results in the computer misbehaving.

                  You look to have done an in place upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11, this has resulted in driver conflicts

                  Your MTB log reflects what we can already see in Speccy.

                  You have a fair bit to do to sort all of you issues and you need a solid foundation to start from, this means getting the correct drivers installed and likewise in the correct order + getting rid of stuff that should not be being used on the computer in the first place.

                  Can you post the name and number of the Dell notebook for us, include the service tag number as well please.[/COLOR][/COLOR][/COLOR]

                        would it be a good idea to restore the laptop to factory settings and wipe everything and start a fresh ?

                        i use dual monitors for work . one monitor is purely to use parsec so i can connect to my home PC to stream video ( i am abroad at the moment ) and the laptop is for trading betting markets

                        would a cheap viable option be to use a raspberry pi for parsec only and on the monitor and then use the laptop just for the trading software ?

                        i could buy another PC but it’s a bit expensive

                          Try the Dell driver auto detector first to see what that suggests, go here

                          As mentioned in my reply #9, your CPU is getting fried and because of the low spec of the graphics solution and the RAM.

                          The decision will soon be forced upon you if you do not do as advised, disconnect the second screen and replace the present stick of totally wrong spec of RAM with a matching pair of sticks that are the correct spec, both Dell and Intel state that 2400MHz RAM is the maximum, this makes the present 3200MHz stick a waste of financial resources.

                          Once you have the appropriate RAM in place, connect your second screen and as long as the CPU has not suffered any heat related damage you should see a drop in temps and a marked performance gain.

                              Couple of other things that you can do that will help some, get rid of Avast and the traces of McAfee that are on the computer, see the below;

                              Having more than one AV or Firewall installed on your computer is bad, it will slow down the computer, cause internet connection problems and leave you with no AV protection at all if they cancel each other out as they fight for resources.

                              Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and 11 come with an improved Windows Defender, it offers the same real-time anti-virus/anti-malware protection as Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender also shares the same malware signature definitions as Microsoft Security Essentials, and Forefront Endpoint Protection. Technically, Microsoft Security Essentials has not been renamed Windows Defender, or combined with it in Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and 11.

                              [COLOR=rgb(184, 49, 47)]If any AV product that you have is a paid for version you should always make sure that you have a copy of the product key kept somewhere safe just in case you ever wish to reinstall it.

                              You can uninstall Avast in the Control Panel but should you have any problems see Avast clean removal info here Please create a new system restore point first.

                              McAfee product removal tool (MCPR) here

                              If you stick with only Windows Defender, once any other AV has been correctly uninstalled, check to see if Windows Defender has auto enabled and allow it to update and carry out a full scan of your computer.

                              Once done, restart, test by using the computer as you normally would, post back with an updated Speccy url when you are ready.[/COLOR]
