    Drive partitions...why are files misssing from original drives after adding a new drive?

    I know nothing about computers so I shouldn’t have even attempted this, however I tried to follow some instructions online.

    So the initial problem was my external hard drive was showing in the background (in devices and printers) but not in file explorer so I couldn’t open it so see my files, I followed instructions I found online which said to add a drive for it through the partitions bit but long story short it didn’t work (and I don’t care about that anymore) but now the drives that were originally there are affected. And this is now my problem.

    They still show in file explorer but all the files within them show little grey crosses and nothing opens. The files within them says ‘the file is not currently available for use on this computer’.

    Is there any way to undo what I did?

    I have checked and there is no system restore set up so I can’t do that.

    I am not sure what else to do
    I am using a HP elite book from my work if that helps with windows 10

    Can you upload an expanded screenshot of Disk Manager for us.

    Access Disk Management via Run.

    Press the Windows+R keys to open Run, type diskmgmt.msc in the empty box then press OK.

    To capture and post a screenshot;

    Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key..its on the top row..right hand side..now click on start…all programs…accessories…paint…left click in the white area …press CTRL + V…click on file…click on save…save it to your desktop…name it something related to the screen your capturing… BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG …otherwise it may be to big to upload… after typing in any response you have… click on Upload a File to add the screenshot.

    Screenshot instructions are provided to assist those that may read this topic but are not yet aware of the “how to”.

      Hi, thanks for your reply. I’m not able to open ‘run’ due to restrictions on the laptop.
