Slow PC and fan makes a lot of noise.

Hello, I have an Acer Nitro 5 AN515-54. It has 16 GB of RAM, an RTX 2060 graphics card, and an i5 9300h. The problem is that when I have Google, Spotify, Discord, or anything else open, the entire computer becomes slow, including games. I experience really low FPS in games, and I have reset it several times. I would think that it’s not a bad computer, but I just can’t understand what’s needed. All drivers are also up to date. Is there something to download, some settings, or anything else? I have searched around and tried so many different things, but nothing helps.

Download then run Speccy ( free ) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

My computer is actually quite noisy, mostly from the fan, making it seem like it’s about to catch fire due to the heat. However, I still can’t understand why it makes such noise even when only Google is open.

Regarding Speccy;

You have a few issues going on there but the one that requires immediate attention is addressed below;

For Windows to be able to run efficiently and to be able to update you need to have between 20 and 25% of the partition or drive available on a HDD and an SSD between 10 and 15% as free storage space at all times, if you don`t you risk Windows becoming corrupt or not being able to update which puts you at risk of malware attack.

Data only storage devices should not be allowed to get any lower than 10% of free storage space of the full capacity of the drive/partition on the drive, this also to avoid data corruption.

[COLOR=rgb(184, 49, 47)]Please note that storage devices can physically fail if the amount of free storage space is allowed to drop below the required 10 or 20/25% minimum.

Uninstall as many unused programs, games, videos and music files as you can and get yourself another means of backing up to, post back when you have between 20 and 25% free storage space on the C: drive/partition and we can go from there.

Just a fyi, Windows should always be installed on either its own drive or on a separate partition on a larger drive, this reduces the amount of free space that is required to be kept available + it makes creating a regular back up a whole lot easier.

A 256GB SSD or separate partition on a larger capacity drive should be the minimum capacity allowed for.

Windows will also boot up quicker on its own partition as it does not need to install drivers for any third party programs.

One of the first things that you need to get rid of is the awful AVG, it is a complete resource hog and something that you don’t even need.

Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and 11 come with an improved Windows Defender, it offers the same real-time anti-virus/anti-malware protection as Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender also shares the same malware signature definitions as Microsoft Security Essentials, and Forefront Endpoint Protection. Technically, Microsoft Security Essentials has not been renamed Windows Defender, or combined with it in Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and 11.

If any AV product that you have is a paid for version you should always make sure that you have a copy of the product key kept somewhere safe just in case you ever wish to reinstall it.

Please create a new system restore point first.

How to uninstall AVG here

After AVG has been correctly uninstalled, restart, check to see if Windows Defender has auto enabled and allow it to update and carry out a full scan of your computer.

Once done, restart, free up the required space, post back with an update when you are ready.

RAID = redundant array of independent disks and what makes no sense about why your computer is set up in RAID is the fact that there is only one storage device present, what RAID does is mirror what is on one drive onto at least one other drive.

Small wonder with the amount of load you are putting on it, two additional screens and a bottleneck caused by single channel RAM is going to stress the CPU and cause elevated temperatures, the noise from the cooling fan is what is keeping your CPU from being fried.
